A complete knapped gun-flint from a flintlock musket of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600 - 1900. The gun-flint is formed from a tertiary flake of translucent mid-grey flint. It is rectangular in both shape and cross-section though the section is irregular and tapers from one end to the other. The object is 23.74mm long, 17.89mm wide, 5.82mm thick and weighs 3.81g. A gunflint dating from the Post Medieval period, about 1650-1850. Knapped from a translucent dark brown flint, the object is rectangular in plan with a trapezoidal section, forming the characteristic truncated pyramid shape. There is a semi-circular notch one third of the way along the leading edge. Its size suggests it was used in a flintlock pistol, having a length of 21.10mm, a width of 14.70mm and a thickness of 5.23mm. It weighs 2.26g.

There is a semi-circular notch one third of the way along the leading edge. Its size suggests it was used in a flintlock musket, having a length of 25.07mm, a width of 22.79mm and a thickness of 6.97mm. It weighs 5.47g.

A Post-medieval gun flint from a full size flintlock musket dating approximately 1700 to 1810AD from the size of the flint. The flint is roughly rectangular in shape and has been knapped to create sloped edges by working the flint with a hammer finished by pressure flaking. The flint is wrapped in a lead binder. The length is 29mm, and the width is 25mm.
