County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An almost complete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead from the Beaker period or the Early Bronze Age. The arrowhead is triangular in plan with two semi-circular notches cut into the base to separate the barbs from the central tang. The barbs are of uneven length. The tang is irregularly shaped and it appears as though one corner might have broken off. The arrowhead is made from a tertiary flake that has been bifacially worked with invasive, scaled, low angle retouch on both sides. The flint is patinated giving it an opaque white appearance with an area of grey/blue towards th…

County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete knapped lithic implement of Mesolithic date, circa 9000 - 4000 BC. The implement is a blade formed from a secondary flake which is rectangular with a sub-D-shaped section. The ventral surface is smooth with a visible bulb of percussion from which ripples radiate. The distal surface is irregular with a few log flakes having been removed and a patch of cortex running along the right edge. The implement is slightly wider at the distal edge with a flared point to the left side. The flint is a dark-grey colour with some small white inclusions. The implement is 42.8mm long, 1…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete knapped lithic implement of late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date, circa 2700 - 1600BC. The implement is a hollow scraper formed from a hard hammered primary flake which is sub-ovate with a sub-D-shaped section. The dorsal surface retains a dark-brown cortex while the ventral surface is irregular with numerous flakes having been removed. Abrupt long, parallel retouch is present along the hollow on the left edge which forms the scraping edge. The flint is a dark-grey colour with lighter inclusions. The implement is 63.8mm long, 45.2mm wide, 13.2mm thick and weighs 40.1g.

A complete knapped lithic implement of late Bronze Age date, circa 1000 - 800BC. The implement is a crude scraper formed from a hard hammered secondary flake which is sub-ovate with a D-shaped section. Both surfaces are irregular with numerous smaller flakes having been removed. A patch of cortex remains on the dorsal surface around what appears to be a pot lid fracture. Extensive abrupt short, sub-parallel retouch is present along the distal edge and into either side to form the rough scraping edge. The flint is a mid-grey colour with patches of a lighter chalky inclusion and som…

The implement is a crude scraper formed from a hard hammered secondary flake which is sub-triangular with a D-shaped section. The ventral surface is relatively smooth with visible ripples of percussion radiating from the bulb of percussion. The dorsal surface is irregular with an irregular patch of cortex to the proximal portion. Abrupt, short and scaled retouch is present along the distal edge forming the scraping surface. Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A retouched flint flake, probably of Neolithic date, about 4000 - 2350 BC. It is of light grey, translucent flint. It is a secondary flake with cortex surviing on the left edge. In plan it is sub-rectangular; in section it is a pointed oval. There are areas of retouch along the right edge but these are not visible along the entire edge as it has sustained some damage since deposition in the soil. The retouch is short, semi-abrupt and sub-parallel. The flake is 27.9mm long, 19.8mm wide and 5.5mm thick. It weighs 2.68gm.
