Undated flint blade. Mid-mottled-brown opaque patina. A tertiary blade, pretty much a core tablet removal as the left edge forms the platform of a core that has been unidirectionally flaked. The flake scars are thus all orthogonal from left to right. There is a small area of denticulated retouch on the right.

It is broadly triangular in profile although it is more flat at the proximal end. There are three broad removals on the dorsal surface, with some modern damage / edging. Prehistoric snapped blade formed on a secondary flake of mottled black/brown flint. It is triangular in plan, and the tip and base edges both show abrupt retouch. There is cortex remaining along the central facet of the trapezoid sectioned dorsal face and ripple marks on the slightly curved ventral side. There is a notch halfway along one side which appears to be intentional. Possibly intended as a plano-convex knife, but maybe reworked to be used as a scraper. Length 36.4 mm, width 21.8 mm, thickness 7.1 mm, mass 5.8 g.

An Upper Palaeolithic flint blade, dating to 150000-10000BC. A dark grey flint secondary blade which has some patination and staining. The blade has a clear bulb of percussion, bulb scarring and rippling on the ventral side and flake removal scars and some remaining cortex on the dorsal side. The blade measures 77.66mm in length, 38.97mm wide, 17.79mm thick and weighs 64.58g. The flints represent the primary waste from the manufacture of artefacts such as scrapers and arrowheads. The cores and flakes are knapped from pebbles and cobbles suggesting the use of local river gravels. Th…
