An incomplete flint nodule, possibly used as the raw material for flint working, so a form of core, but with only limited removals taken from it. It is of unknown date, probably Mesolithic to Iron Age, 10,000 BC - 1 BC. It is a rounded nodule of flint, with cortex at one end, and exposed faces of flint at the other end. The flint is mottled black, yellow and grey. There are no clearly identifiable striking platforms, suggesting this is a mainly unworked nodule rather than a formal flint working core. Though the nodule offers no intrinsic dating evidence, other finds from the area have…

County: Kirklees
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a retouched flake or lithic implement of uncertain date, Mesolithic to Iron Age, 10,000 BC - 1 BC. It is a fragment of a tertiary worked flint, mottled light grey in colour, and in its current form it is sub-rectangular. It appears to be part of the distal end of a larger flint. There are conchoidal fracture ripples on the ventral face, and the wide and convex distal end has short, abrupt, sub-parallel removals, suggesting retouch to form a scraping edge. It is unclear which of the other edges are breaks. It is 7.9mm long, 12.3mm wide and 3.8mm thick. 0.5g.

There is a clear striking platform, otherwise the flint could be considered to be naturally or accidentally formed. It is 34mm long, 20mm wide and 8mm thick. 4.4g.
