A complete Post-Medieval knapped chert, gun-flint c. 1600 - 1850 AD. The flint is close to a perfect square, typically flat to the ventral side with the topmost dorsal side knapped into a wedge form with numerous flake scars. Viewed from the side, it forms an irregular polygon. The material is a grey chert with irregular small white angular inclusions. It measures 20.2mm x 19.32mm and 0.9mm deep, weighing 4.2gm.

An incomplete struck gunflint dating to the post-medieval period. The gunflint is rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in section with broad flakes removed from the dorsal side and with short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect trimming its edges. The thin end of the gunflint has extensive post-deposition damage. Flintlock guns were in use in France by c. AD 1600 and it is likely that this example dates from c. AD 1650 - 1850.

A wedge-shaped segment from a long blade flake which has been trimmed along three sides leaving the tapering sharp edge of the original flake at one side. There are waves of percussion visible on the ventral face. Date: Post Medieval to Modern - c. 1650 - 1850 Dimensions: 20.33 mm x 14.29 mm x 4.29 mm Weight: 2.02 g This is probably for a smaller flintlock weapon such as a pistol.

Glass gemstone. An oval translucent glass stone of biconvex lentoid section, with rhomboid facets on both sides, now smoothed by wear, and with recent chipping along the aris where the sides meet. The tint resembles that of an amethyst, which this is not; the glass is, however, without discernible bubbles, and so may be of fairly recent date. A post medieval knapped gun flint from a flintlock musket or pistol dating AD 1650-1850. It is D-shaped in plan and wedge-shaped in cross-section, such that the ventral side is flat. It is thicker at the proximal rounded end and thinner at the distal end. The bulb of percussion emanates from the proximal end. There is working on all edges and the edges are not straight. A complete knapped gun-flint with lead casing from a flintlock musket of post-medieval date. The flint is rectangular in both shape and cross-section though the section is irregular and tapers from one end to the other. The flint is dark blackish-grey in colour with some lighter inclusions. The flint is enclosed on both faces by a sub-rectangular folded lead holder. The object is 21.9mm long, 20.9mm wide, 9.9mm thick and weighs 8g. A small rectangular gunflint. Made by trimming a longer flake to produce a wedge shaped flint with retouch around the heel and sides leaving the fourth, leading edge sharp in order to strike against the frizzen to create the sparks needed in a flintlock gun.
