Flint plano-convex pointed knife, lozenge-shaped in plan, semi-circular in profile and triangular in section. Both the lateral margins and the distal and the proximal ends are worked on the dorsal face. These are finely retouched with what appears to be pressure flaking. The remains of surface gloss on the right edge of the dorsal face of the knife shows that it was used against organic matter. The flint is a mottled light grey to translucent brown colour and could therefore be made from local flint sources. The length to breadth ratio is a bit more than 3:1. Bond (2004) illustra…

A flint tool, a knife, probably dating from the late Neolithic. The knife is 48.3mm long, 15.1mm wide and 4.6mm thick. It is formed on a tertiary flake which is rounded at both ends. Both edges are retouched, but they are also extensively damaged. It is similar to a plano-convex knife on page 171 of “Prehistoric Flintwork” by Chris Butler (2005), but is less invasively worked. The flint is an opaque and patinated brownish grey colour.

Grey semi-translucent flint, of good quality, knife. Plano-convex knapped blade, bearing three long blade removal scars on the dorsal face, and a bulb of percussion on the ventral surface showing where the blade was removed from the core after these long flakes had been removed. This working was probably with hard hammer, but pressure flaked retouch appears along both long edges. The removal of long thin flakes and the selection of apt material tend to indicate an earlier Neolithic date; however, the plano-convex form anticipates later blade and fabricator forms, so a broader date-ran…
