Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A probable knapped flint scraper, made from a dark grey colour with cortex remaining on the dorsal surface. The scraper is semi-circular in plan, and the rounded edge has re-touch on the dorsal surface. There is also a small area of re-touch along the straight edge, but this does not appear to be functional. The ventral surface has ripple, but no bulb of percussion or striking platform suggesting that the scraper has a portion missing. The surface of the scraper has a slightly waxy texture. It measures 23.57mm long and 16.15mm wide. It weighs 2.6g.

The butt end of a polished flint-knapped axe of the Neolitich period.
The object is basically trapezoidal in plan and a pointed oval in section. It has been knapped from a grey flint of brownish tinge that has large areas of milky-coloured patches (which are still the same type of flint, and not inclusions). This flint is consistent with other flint Neolithic artefacts from Northumberland, with a potentially similar axe made in the same flint found in the Cheviots and on display at the Museum of Antiquities in Newcastle.
The butt has broken from the rest of the axehead, with th…

An incomplete prehistoric knapped flint implement, possibly a Neolithic flint chisel (3500-2100 BC). The object has broken in a large hinge fracture approximately one-half to two-thirds of the way down the tool-end. It seems that the butt of the implement and the majority of its body is intact. The remains of the implement consist of a narrowed, thin butt-end, which still maintains a small degree of cortex; the body has been knapped carefully overall to shape into a thin oval cross-section, visible at the break. Both ventral and dorsal surfaces have symmetrical rises, unlike adzes.…

Retouched blade with heavy chalk patination. This is a secondary blade with c.30% cortex remaining. Some cortex remains on the striking platform suggesting this was a core preperation flake but there is retouch on the left hand side of the lower, ventral face towards the distal end suggesting creation of an informal tool. The retouch is short, semi-abrupt and scaled. It starts 20.5mm down the side, measuring from the promial end and runs to within 5.8mm of the distal end.
The diffuse waves and striking platform suggest a soft hammer was used to prepare this blade. The use of a soft h…

Small irregular flint waste flake / debitage probably dating from the Neolithic period (3500 - 2100 BC). The flake is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross section. It has number of regular facets (caused by flaking) on the upper (dorsal) face of the flake. There are also a number of hinge fractures caused by flaws within the flint matrix. There is no evidence of cortex (the rough outer skin of the flint nodule) present on either face. This suggests that this flake comes from the tertiary phase of tool production. Neolithic blade; Knapped flint blade of probable Neolithic date (approximately 3500 BC – 2100 BC). The blade is of opaque, cream-white flint with touches of pale blue and rust-colour in its fabric. It is formed of one long flake with further strikes along the ‘front’ face to give a triangular cross-section. The back face has a prominent bulb of percussion where it was struck away from the core. There is some evidence of secondary working to shape the cutting edges along both long sides of the flake.
