Black flint, possibly collected from the East coast, possible backed blade. A semi-circular flake retaining marine-derived coating, and with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side, and with a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved edge. Creamy patina over all struck surfaces suggests the object was subsequently exposed to a calcareous environment, while orange spots suggest its incorporation into gravel. The form is also comparable to that of a thumbnail scraper; in this case, the retention of the coating opposite the working …

Object type: POLISHED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale grey-buff flint with very marked patina suggesting a long period of exposure to a calcareous environment; possible polished flint axehead fragment. A small chunk which may preserve the crescentic cutting edge of a polished flint axe; if this is so, the other side of the blade has been pitted by frost fractures and/or other impact damage, and the butt and most of the body of the axe are lost. Suggested date: Early to Mid Neolithic, 4000-2700 BC Length: 36.7mm, Height: 36.9mm, Thickness: 18.7mm, Weight: 21.25gms

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Dark grey flint with pale band, possible debitage. A small irregular flake with possible scalar invasive retouch of its dorsal side and a prominent bulb and adjacent platform on the ventral surface. If indeed a struck flake, this was perhaps incorporated into a sealed context as there is only a trace of patina – on the putative striking platform. Suggested date: possibly Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 23.3mm, Width: 24.1mm, Thickness: 6.6mm, Weight: 2.79gms
