Grey flint with fine grey ‘cortex’, possibly collected from the East Coast, possible backed blade. Trapezoid flake with a negative pot-lid frost fracture and a smooth convex surface on its ventral side; hard hammer strike has trimmed one side to produce a flat back; the cutting edge is indicated by very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect, following one long edge. The ventral surface has also been trimmed with the removal of broad thin flakes, and is polished by subsequent wear. This might alternatively be viewed as a reworked fragment from a discoid or plano-conv…

Pale grey flint barbed and tanged arrowhead. Arrowhead bearing covering angled scalar retouch across both sides, with two long cutting edges converging at a sharp and intact point, with two small barbs flanking a slightly broader tang at its wider end. The long edges are finely serrated as a result of the finishing, which would make them very effective for use as a hunting arrowhead intended to promote blood loss from a stricken quarry. The fir-tree form and fine finish recalls a series of lozengiform points from East Yorkshire round barrows which, though perhaps typologically project…

Pale buff flint possible knife fragment. Perhaps one half of a thin oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a flat or very slightly concave ventral surface. A long narrow flake is struck from along a putative cutting edge. The form might also suggest an over-sized barbed and tanged arrowhead, though the concave ventral surface would probably interfere with flight if it were so deployed. Milky patina suggests the object to have endured exposure to a calcareous environment; the break or breaks [a smaller break appears at the base/butt end] is more recent. Sugge…

White flint (patinated overall) polished axe fragment. Flint axe comprising a sub-ovoid axe head with one straight side, possibly from an ancient break. The flint bears either large hard hammer flake removal scars or similarly abrupt damage over all other areas except that near the cutting edge, and these confer the appearance of a particularly graceless Mesolithic Seamer-style axe. However, the cutting edge is curved and finely polished on both sides, and this feature commends a Neolithic date. It remains uncertain whether most flaking post-dated the polished finishing of the axe, as…
