Greenish-brown to toffee coloured flint debitage. An irregular flake with two lakes struck from its dorsal side, a bulb at one end of a rippled ventral surface, and a positive hinge fracture at the other. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect defines a notch on one side, apt to the trimming of a shaft, and permitting an alternative identification as an improvised hollow scraper. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 38.5mm, Width: 22.0mm, Thickness: 6.2mm, Weight: 4.31gms

Grey [appearing honey-coloured under transmitted light] semi-translucent flint of high quality; leaf arrowhead, as kindly identified by the finder. A thin elongated oval flake with narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side, and with a flat ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from both the dorsal and ventral aspects follows all of one long side and short adjoining parts at either end of the opposite long edge. The bilateral retouch is an unusual feature, and may have been intended to improve the already considerable penetrative efficiency of the arrowhead. Suggested…

Grey flint [appearing brownish under transmitted light] possible plano-convex knife. A sub-triangular flake with two broad and narrow flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at one end of a slightly concave ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the edges of the object, with an indentation perhaps smoothed by wear on the shortest side, and a short [11mm] notch on one of the long edges. The finder kindly suggests a function for the object as an arrowhead; this reporter would consider it a little large and irregular in its thickness to se…

Grey-green [appearing toffee coloured under transmitted light] flint, possibly collected from the East Coast, plano-convex knife. A thick crescentic flake of plano-convex section with invasive angled scalar retouch along the dorsal side following its curving edge. The ventral surface is effectively flat with a bulb at one end. A crisply defined flat back to the blade is probably an original feature enabling pressure to be brought to bear on its cutting edge, as is a matching flat terminal at one end of the blade. Grey-buff flint debitage. A small plano-convex flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a slightly bulbar ventral surface which includes the negative scar of a hinge fracture. A dense misty patina suggests the object has endured exposure to a calcareous environment; this surface is chipped as probably recent adventitious damage. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 26.1mm, Width: 20.7mm, Thickness: 6.8mm, Weight: 2.73gms

Flint with cortex possible backed blade. A thin oval flake with broad flakes trimmed from its dorsal side and with a prominent bulb at one end of its ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curving edge, with a small striking platform reserved as a butt. A strip of cortex was retained, perhaps to enable pressure to be brought to bear on the opposite sharpened edge. The subsequent development of dense misty patina on all struck surfaces suggests the object subsequently endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolith…

Grey flint debitage. Two thin flakes, of length 31.5mm and 17.8mm, with broad flakes trimmed from their dorsal sides and each with a bulb on the ventral surface. One bears a light misty patina suggesting its exposure to a calcareous environment; the other lacks this, and was perhaps in a sealed context until recently. The finder has suggested a possible function as a chisel-ended or transverse arrowhead for one or both pieces; the smaller is perhaps the more likely candidate for this. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Combined Weight: 5.27gms

Grey flint possible plano-convex knife fragment. A flake with broad flakes trimmed froim its dorsal side by hard hammer strike and with a flat ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows two straight and an adjacent curved edge to produce a cutting edge; the latter truncated by the loss of part of the curving edge to a possibly recent break. Suggested date: Late Neolithic, 2700-2350 BC. Length: 30.5mm, Width: 30.8mm, Thickness: 6.3mm, Weight: 5.89gms

Grey flint with cortex strip, backed blade. A long thick flake with the dorsal surface trimmed overall by hard hammer strike and with a concave rippled ventral surface. A strip of cortex was retained along part of one long edge. The opposite edge has a slight concavity bearing the small crescentic scars arising from edge-on impact. A complete lack of surface patina may indicate the subsequent incorporation of the object into a sealed context, where it remained until recently. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 35.7mm, Width: 16.6mm, Thickness: 6.2mm, Weight: 4.03gms
