A small damaged possible polished flint axehead. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and pointed oval in section. The head of the axe flares to the cutting edge, which curves outwards. The cutting edge is damaged with c. 40 % remaining and there is also an abrupt transverse break across the butt end. There are scratches on the surface on both sides of the axehead. Invasive retouch can be seen on the surface on each side, along the edges and across the blade end. This may suggest that the axe was modified at some point and possibly reused. The flint is a mid-grey in colour with patch…

A polished flint axe dating to the later Neolithic period (circa 2500 BC to 2100 BC). The axe is sub-rectangular in plan and gently tapers to the butt. The sides are flattened. The cutting edge is irregular, and there appears to be a large flake that has been removed from one side, though it is unclear if this is intentional or damage. The axe is a mottled green-grey in colour.

A partially polished flint axe dating to the later Neolithic period (circa 2500 BC to 2100 BC). The axe is sub-rectangular in plan and gently tapers to the butt. The body and butt are pointed-oval/lozenge in cross-section. The cutting edge is polished, and measures 38mm in length. The polished area is roughly triangular, tapering from the cutting edge to the centre of the body at which point it is at its thickest, measuring 29mm. The rest of the axe resembles a rough-out. The axe is a mottled yellow-cream colour with localised patches of reddish staining.

Partially polished Neolithic flint axe or adze. The axe is roughly a pointed oval in cross-section, and tapers from cutting edge to butt. The cutting edge is still sharp and shows a high degree of polish; the area around the blade is the only polished area of the entire axe. The cutting edge is a smooth crescent and is inclined more towards one side suggesting that the tool may be an adze rather than an axe. The main body is roughly knapped and diplays a possible haft element. The surface of the axe has an even chalky-cream patina, and where the axe is damaged the flint underneath the…

Neolithic polished flint axe. The axe is oval in plan and in cross-section. The axe tapers from cutting edge to butt, and the sides are slightly flattened. There are two long flakes taken off the axe, presumably through damage or wear. One flake is taken off the butt end of the axe on one side, and on the other side the flake is taken off the body. The cutting edge is slightly damaged and shows some degree of polish. The flint is a light mottled grey colour.

Incomplete polished flint axe of Neolithic date (4500 BC - 2000 BC). The blade is slightly damaged and the butt is incomplete. Length 119mm, width 56mm and 20mm thick. The axe is of a mid-brown/cream mottled flint which has been knapped then most of the surface subsequently polished. There is a series of neat scaling along both long sides of the axe suggesting a middle to later Neolithic date. There is also some polished scaling remaining along the blade edge. The straight sides flare gently outwards from the broken butt towards the blade. The butt end displays a hinge fracture. The b…

Complete Neolithic polished axe. The axe is wedge shaped and a pointed oval in cross section. There are no side facets. The axe tapers from cutting edge to the butt end, which has been thinned out. Approximately two thirds of the way down the axe both sides have been slightly notched, probably indicating where it was hafted. The whole artefact has a mottled light orangey-brown colour, with patches of a lighter creamy-brown.
