Neolithic flint 'chipped' axehead, 159mm x 51mm x 32mm. The patina is milky-white and c.20% of a grey cortex survives on the surface. Traces of iron staining are also visible. The axehead is somewhat flatter on one side than the other, rising to a max height of c.13mm from the outside edge, while the other surface rises to 23mm. A chip at the wider end (the cutting edge) shows a yellowy-brown colour, while a chip on the edge near the opposite end shows a black colour. Almost complete Neolithic flint polished axehead, with a chip to the butt end resulting in the loss of one corner. It is c.130mm in length and tapers from c.20mm wide at the butt end to 49mm at the cutting edge. Its maximum thickness is 26mm. The axehead is orangey-brown in colour with light milky patination. The surface of the axe is not entirely smooth - there a number of chips flanking the sides of the body (?since manufacture). The flint is buff-coloured with 15% coretex present, and one entire surface shows signs of recentish burning and subsequent knocking, through farming (commented on by Martin Green, experimental archaeologist, Dorset who has found flints with similar signs of burning on his land). The other surface has a few patches of cortex and evidence of iron staining from the soil.
