Object type: SERRATED IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Dark grey flint serrated implement. A thick oval flake with two broad flakes struck from its dorsal side, and with a bulb at one end of its ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge, providing tiny serrations which are more readily felt than observed, and may continue across the adjacent rounded end. Dense patches of misty patina may suggest the subsequent exposure of the object to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 34.5mm, Width: 25.5mm, Thickness: 8.6mm, Weight: 8.73gms

Dark grey flint with cortex, core. A rounded chunk with long narrow parallel flakes and broad flakes removed by probably multangular working; misty patina on struck surfaces suggests the object has subsequently endured exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC Height: 35mm, Width: 40mm, Thickness: 20.5mm, Weight: 46.20gms

Flint with cortex strip, scraper. A small thick flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a bulb at the edge of its ventral surface. Short scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curving edge; this is perhaps interrupted by ancient breakage, as misty patina has subsequently extended over all struck surfaces, suggesting the object was then exposed to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 28.0mm, Width: 26.8mm, Thickness: 10.5mm, Weight: 10.14gms

Dark grey flint pebble coated with cortex, core. Rounded pebble with broad and narrow parallel flakes removed by unidirectional working from two sides; struck surfaces have acquired a misty patina suggesting its subsequent exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 32.8mm, Width: 33.3mm, Thickness: 17.7mm, Weight: 24.62gms

Grey flint knife. Flake with two broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at the narrower end of its ventral surface. Milky patina suggests the object subsequently endured exposure to a calcareous environment. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect follows one long edge from the bulb to form a short cutting edge, and very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect also follows the wavy edge of the broader end to blunt or trim it; these features may suggest reuse of a previously discarded and weathered flake. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350…

Dark grey flint with cortex spot, scraper. Sub-trapezoid thick flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and an almost flat ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from thre dorsal aspect follows the wider curved end. Bands of milky patina may suggest the object has subsequently endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Dark grey flint scraper. Small flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge at one end of the object and the adjacent sides. Patches of milky patina suggest the object was subsequently exposed to a calcareous environment.
