Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Neolithic or Bronze Age sub circular white flint 'pot lid' with spots of iron staining. Modified to perform as a scraper by flaking along the entire curved edge. The straight edge has been created by one large removal, possibly natural. Probably Neolithic or Bronze Age (c3500 to c800 BC) but impossible to date accurately. Modified natural 'pot lids' would have made an expedient 'quick fix' tool in an emergency. The presence of four in the same vicinity suggests a butchery site or camp. They were possibly used only while the site was occupied then discarded. See also LANCUM-03C6C2,…

A Neolithic or Bronze Age oval white flint 'pot lid' with spots of iron staining. Modified to perform as a scraper by flaking along the entire curved edge. The apex of the dorsal bulge has been reduced with one large removal, another natural 'pot lid'. The dorsal surface display extensive retouch along all edges. The flint is a dark grey colour with some lighter inclusions and the dorsal surface retains around 50% of its cortex. The implement is 53.1mm long, 49.4mm wide, 14.2mm thick and weigh…

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 3500 - 2100 BC. The implement is a scraper which has been formed from a primary flake which is ovate in plan and D-shaped in section. The ventral surface is irregular with numerous steep flakes having been removed from the edges and a large void is created in the centre by an imperfection in the flint. The bulb of percussion and striking platform no longer remain. The dorsal surface is rounded and display steep extensive retouch along all edges. The flint is a dark grey colour with some lighter inclusions and the dorsal sur…

The ventral surface is coated in a light brown cortex. The dorsal surface has had multiple flakes of varying sizes removed and displays negative scars and corresponding arises. Steep retouch is present along the distal edge and into the mesial portion of the right side. The flint is a mid grey colour with lighter chalky inclusions. The implement is 48.7mm long, 33.5mm wide, 10.4mm thick and weighs 18.8g. …

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 3500 - 2100 BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a secondary flake which is ovate in plan with an irregular rectangular section. The ventral surface is smooth with ripples of percussion radiating from the bulb of percussion and striking platform. The dorsal surface is irregular having had numerous flakes of varying sizes removed and displays negative scars and corresponding arises. Steep retouch is present along the distal edge. The flint is a dark grey colour with lighter inclusions and the dorsal surface retains rou…

A complete flint scraper of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-ovate in profile. The dorsal surface has covering scaled flaking. The distal, left and right hand edges contain semi-abrupt retouch. The proximal edge has been abruptly blunted. The ventral surface contains covering scaled flaking and retains two minor areas of cortex at the proximal end making this a secondary flake. The flint is a light grey in colour with frequent cream coloured inclusions throughout. The cortex is a light brown in colour.

A complete flint side scraper of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-spatulate in profile. The dorsal surface retains a large amount of cortex across its mesial section making this a secondary flake. The dorsal surface also contains some partial, parallel flaking at the distal end and two large negative scars along the right hand edge. The distal and left hand edges contain semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface is flat and contains shallow ripples of percussion emanating from the proximal end. The flint is a dark grey in colour, the cortex is a mid-grey in colour.
