A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is ovate in plan and D-shaped in section. The ventral surface is smooth with ripples of percussion. The dorsal surface is irregular with semi-abrupt, short and sub-parallel retouch along the distal edge forming the scraping surface. The left edge also displays abrupt, long, parallel retouch. A notched area is also present to the right mesial portion. The flint is a mid-grey colour. The implement is 38.2mm long, 26.2mm wide, 6.9mm thick and weigh…

A complete knapped lithic implement of late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date, circa 2700 - 1600 BC. The implement is a notched scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is sub-ovate in plan and section. The ventral surface is smooth with faint ripples of percussion. The dorsal surface is irregular. The notched surface is present on the left mesial edge and is formed of short, abrupt, scaled retouch. The flint is a mid-grey/brown colour. The implement is 51mm long, 26.4mm wide, 6.3mm thick and weighs 8.2g.

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a secondary flake which is ovate in plan and D-shaped in section. The ventral surface is smooth with a bulbar scar and bulb of percussion. The dorsal surface is irregular with two patches of cortex retained. cross-abrupt, short and sub-parallel retouch is present to the lower left edge and right mesial edge. The flint is a mid-brown colour. The implement is 51.9mm long, 30.5mm wide, 9.2mm thick and weighs 17.4g. Scrapers are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory …

A complete knapped lithic implement of probable Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a secondary flake which is ovate in plan and section. Both the ventral and dorsal surfaces are irregular and cortex is retained on the proximal edge. Cross-abrupt, short and sub-parallel retouch is present to the centre of the distal edge. The flint is a mid-grey colour. The implement is 38.4mm long, 34.8mm wide, 9mm thick and weighs 17.6g. Scrapers are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory and are generally less chronologically distinctive than other ar…

A complete flint scraper/blade of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-rectangular in profile and plano-convex in section. The dorsal surface contains three predominant negative scars and corresponding arrises. All edges contain partial scaled flaking and semi-abrupt retouch. There is a recess within the mesial left hand portion creating a notched aspect. The ventral surface is predominantly smooth with some shallow ripples of percussion emanating from the distal end. The lithic retains no cortex and is therefore a tertiary flake. The flint is a reddish brown in colou…

Pale grey flint scraper, as kindly identified by the finder – its use as a discoid knife seems possible. Oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral surface adjacent to a striking platform serving as a butt. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved edge; a long narrow flake is also detached across the top of the resulting curved cutting edge. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 29.3mm, Width: 27.9mm, Thickness: 8.9mm, Weight: 7.59gms

Pale grey flint with cortex spot, scraper, as kindly identified by the finder – its use as a discoid knife seems possible. Broad flakes have been struck from an oval flake with a bulbar ventral surface. Angled scalar retouch following the curved edge was executed from the dorsal aspect. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 33.0mm, Width: 40.0mm, Thickness: 13.3mm, Weight: 18.06gms

Pale grey flint scraper, as kindly identified by the finder. Oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb on its ventral surface adjacent to a striking platform which served as the butt of the tool. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved edge to provide a robust sharpened cutting edge. The form approaches that of a thumbnail scraper. A white milky patina may suggest the object was subsequently exposed to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, 2500-1600 BC Length: 31.1mm, Width: 26…
