Flint debitage dating from c. 10,000 - 801 BC. The flint is leaf-shaped with a rounded end and a point. The ventral face is largely flat and smooth with visible bulb of percussion at the pointed end. The dorsal face is bulbous at the wider end and narrower towards the point. There may be some slight retouching along the edges on the dorsal face but this is neither extensive or consistent suggesting that this piece was discarded before it was finished. Some cortex remains on the bulbous section of the dorsal face. Otherwise, there are a number of flat sections where flakes have been st…

Complete reworked flint flake, possibly a scraper, probably dating from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age (c. 4000 - 801 BC). The flint is discoidal in shape with a smooth unworked ventral face, on which a bulb of percussion is evident. The distal face has semi-abrupt scaled retouch around 70% of the edge. The unworked section of the distal face retains a rough, light grey cortex. Otherwise the flint is a translucent dark grey colour with some mottling. The length of the flint flake is 40.59mm, it is 35.73mm in width and 9.96mm thick. The weight of the flake is 17.58g.

There is a prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral face which appears to have been reduced by the removal of two flakes from small striking platforms. Length 31.8mm, width 25.2mm and thickness 10.1mm. Weight 7.9gm.

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A retouched flake of probable late Neolithic date, circa 2700 - 2200 BC. The flake is sub-triangular and asymmetrical. It has short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt retouch to both edges. There is a small amount of cortex remaining on the right mesal, so the flake is a secondary flake. There is a prominent bulb of percussion with ripples emanating from it. There is some invasive flaking to the ventral face. The flake is pale grey/brown in colour with a few paler inclusions. Length 40.5mm, width 25.2mm and thickness 7.3mm. Weight 5.8gm.

A flint scraper of probable early Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 3500 BC. The flake is sub-ovate in plan and has a slightly convex ventral surface. Short, parallel, semi-abrupt retouch follows the curving edge. The flake has fifty per cent cortex remaining on the dorsal side and is therefore a secondary flake. The ventral side is smooth with a low bulb of percussion and a distinct striking platform. The flake is pale grey with paler inclusions, including a large sub-circular pale spot roughly 20mm in diameter on the ventral side. Length 42.3mm, width 27.3mm, thickness 14.1mm. Weight …

A flint scraper of probable Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The scraper is struck from a tertiary flake and therefore retains no cortex. The dorsal face exhibits short, stepped, abrupt retouch around the distal end and down the mesal sides. There is no striking platform present at the proximal end, but the ventral face has a bulb of percussion. The dorsal face has a negative flake scar from previous flake removal. The flint is light grey in colour with white inclusions. The scraper measures 43.64mm in length, 42.29mm in width, 5.71mm in thickness and weighs 16.74g.

A flint scraper of probable Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The scraper is struck from a secondary flake and retains c.2% cortex. The dorsal face exhibits short, invasive, semi-abrupt retouch around the distal end. There is a small striking platform present at the proximal end, and the ventral face has a bulb of percussion with bulbar scar. The dorsal face has 5 negative flake scars from previous flake removal. The flint is brown-orange in colour with white and grey inclusions. The scraper measures 46.60mm in length, 35.70mm in width, 5.94mm in thickness and weighs 15.37g.
