A probable flint knife or possibly a leaf-shaped arrowhead blank. A bifacialy worked flake tool made on a tertiary flake of mottled pale grey and off-white flint with a low-gloss patina. Thje flake is slightly curved and retains flake scar ridges on the dorsal face and the remnant of the bulb of percussion on the ventral face. It has been modified with semi-invasive, regular, sharpening retouch on three margins and around the two ends. One margin on one face retains the original flake edge. There is no evidence of systematic working to remove the bulb of percussion. suggesting this is…

A bifacially flaked laurel leaf-shaped knife. The flint is dark and mid-grey in colour with a low gloss patina. There are areas of thick, off-white nodule cortex reatined on the dorsal face towards the tip and at the butt. The ventral face has several large transverse thinning flake removals from the side edges. The dorsal face is more crudely worked with fewer flakes, also from the side edges. The tip of the knife has also been bifacially worked. The knife has an asymmetrical lentoid profile, deeper on the dorsal face. Date: Neolithic - c. 4000 - 250 BC Dimensions: 81 mm x 42.6 mm

A flint knife. The knife is sub-oval with a rounded squared proximal end and has a largely plano convex cross section. The dorsal face shows covering, scaled, low angle and semi-abrupt flaking. The scars across the central ridge are broader with smaller scars around the margins. The ventral face is smooth and flat towards the distal end with a sight off centre bulb at the proximal end, several large flakes have been removed at the left side proximal end probably an attempt to remove the bulb of percussion. The original colour of the flint is a semi- translucent mid-brown, however the …

Damaged remains of a flint tool, probably a knife of Neolithic to Bronze age date. The piece is leaf shaped but much larger than an arrowhead. The outline appears mainly complete but breaks on both faces mean the extent of original retouch and exact form of the edges is unclear. A small amount of cortext (c.10% of the face) remains near the point on one face which may indicate it is unfinished and broke during production. The piece appears to have been formed on a large flake with pistal end now formed into the point. Some of the bulb of percussion may remain at the proximal end b…

A bifacially worked knife made on a small flake of Portland chert. The chert is opaque and dark grey in colour with a low-gloss patina, the knife is pointed-oval at the distal end and rounded-oval at the proximal end. Both faces have semi-invasive, scalar low angle retouch to the side margins, the ventral face still has its bulb of percussion with bulbar scar and is slightly incurved, the low bulb indicates probable use of a soft hammer. The tip has snapped off probably due to post-depositional damage. Date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age - 3300 to 1600 BC. Dimensions: 35.6m…

A unifacially worked knife made on a flake of Portland chert. The chert is opaque and dark grey in colour with a low-gloss patina, the knife is sub-triangular in shape with a triangular cross section. The dorsal face right side margin shows semi invasive scaled, semi abrupt retouch, possibly pressure flaked, this extends around the proximal end and part of the distal end. The ventral face shows a low bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a soft hammer, however there are strong ripples and a bulbar scar. There is slight flaking to straighten the left side edge, this would class…

A unifacially worked knife made on a large flake of Portland chert. The chert is opaque and dark to mid grey in colour with a low gloss patina, the knife is oval with an irregular triangular cross section. The bulb of percussion has been removed from the ventral face; semi invasive, scalar low angle retouch is visible along medial parts of both margins; one edge has and area of fine long, scalar, low angle retouch to the distal end, which may be use-damage or post-depositional as it is discontinuous. Note the high gloss areas on the dorsal surface are unlikely to be edge-gloss, more l…

A probable flint knife dating from the Neolithic to Early Bronze Age (c. 4000 to 1600 BC). A large piece of orange-brown flint with off- white coretex on one face. The dorsal face shows evidence of possible polish at one end and there has been clear knapping on both faces around the unbroken parts of the margin. At one end is a clear break on one side of it and this suggests that it is part of what was once a larger tool. There is no clear bulb of production or striking platform. A probable bifacially worked 'laurel leaf knife' made on a tertiary flake of mottled grey flint with an incipient blue-grey mid-gloss patina. Sub-oval in shape with one face showing covering, scaled, low-angle retouch, possibly at least in part the result of pressure flaking; the other face has more semi-abrupt retouch along its margins, surrounding larger smooth percussion flaking scars. Part of one edge appears crazed and probably heat-affected. (Could also possibly be a rough-out for an arrowhead) Date: Late Neolithic to early Bronze Age 3300 to 1600 BC Dimensions: 40 mm x 31.5 m…
