Flint projectile point, possibly a spearhead rather than a large arrowhead, with unimarginal worked edges on all margins of the dorsal face. There is continuous retouch around the entire margin, with a large flake removed on both faces at the proximal end, removing part of the bulb of percussion on the ventral face and creating a thinner profile for hafting. The distal end is pointed and slightly to the right of the medial line. The vental face is untouched, unlike various piercing tools of the time, apart from the flake removed to facilitate hafting. The flint is a mottled grey to bu…

Flint saw, trapezoidal in plan, rectangular in profile and triangular in section. There is finer retouch on the right margin of the dorsal face, creating the serrated edge used for sawing, and the left margin is backed for handling. The proximal end has been snapped off at the bulb of percussion and there is a layer of cortex remaining on the dorsal face at both the proximal and at the distal end, suggesting that this is a primary flake. These two patches of cortex are connected by the medial ridge which runs almost parallel with the left margin, as it is also slightly curved. The dis…

A group of 43 worked flints, cores and waste flint fragments found in a period of 105 minutes on bare ground on the access strips in a daffodil bulb field. The scatter concentrates towards a bend in a brook with the closest approach foiled by field boundary and country lane. Back from the stream the flints peter out to nearly zero then increase to where the stream is crossed again and the 850+ scatter recorded as CORN-3A0FF2 etc on the other side. The small group recorded here as far as can be seen includes elements from The Mesolithic through to the Bronze Age and is likely another …

A group of 65 miscellaneous tools and utilised flint and chert flakes of many kinds from a 2 hectare field amongst a total of 850 worked flint fragments including waste and utilised pieces and tools. The flints have individual GPS records to a few metres accuracy which form a cluster extending beyond but centred in the field close to a brook at the edge of its flat alluvial plain and slightly above. The flints form a broad funnel to a crossing point and continue less frequently on the other side. There is no modern obvious preferential ford but fallen branches make natural bridges and…

A dark grey piece of flint, square in shape with light grey inclusions in the material. The dorsal face exhibits two areas of cortex on the surface, right side below the medial and the left corner of the proximal edge. The cortex is rough to the touch, implying nodular material. The left margin is curved in appearance with a sheer face along its edge, it ends at the distal edge with a protruding piece and what appears to be some gloss on the surface. The base of the right margin (proximal end) appears to have been retouched. The distal edge is erratic in appearance, no flat areas…

Dark grey/black piece of flint with some cortex remaining on the dorsal face. Described by the finder as a cortex blade, this appears to be a waste flake from a core which exhibits some retouch. The dorsal face is uneven, negative scars from previous use are present down the face, cortex is present on the right margin around the medial. The elft margin exhibts some reotuch on the bottom (proximal edge), while the diatl edge appears abraded and irregular in shape (could be used as a scraper edge). The proximal edge is curved and appears to have been snapped or broken, some straight…

A dark grey piece of flint with light grey inclusions. The piece has been bifacially retouch around the area of the notch. The dorsal face displays around 2% cortex on the right side of the face, the right side of the distal edge projects out from the bulk of the body, while the left side of the distal forms a notch with the right side of the medial. The left margin appears abraded as does the proximal edge. The face exhibits ripples from various negative scars. Triangular shaped piece of translucent flecked brown chert. The dorsal face is uneven in appearance, texture typical of chert material, cortex along the distal edge of the dorsal face. The cortex is smooth to the touch, typcial of beach pebble. No obvous signs of reotuch along the edges, but the proximal edge may have been subject to retocuh because of its shape. The ventral face is smooth in appearance but has no texture.
