County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete knapped lithic implement of late Bronze Age date, circa 1000 - 800BC. The implement is a crude scraper formed from a hard hammered secondary flake which is sub-ovate with a D-shaped section. The ventral surface is smooth while the dorsal surface is irregular with multiple long flakes having been removed. Two patch of cortex remain on the dorsal surface. Extensive abrupt short, sub-parallel retouch is present along the distal edge to form the rough scraping edge. The flint is a mid-grey colour with patches of a lighter chalky inclusion. The implement is 48.9mm long, 32.6m…

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint flake which is sub circular in plan. This is a primary flake with almost the whole dorsal surface being covered in cortex. In two area this cortex has been removed, possibly through natural damage. There is soil adhering in the resulting crevices. The ventral surface features a prominent bulb of percussion and a bulbal scar (partly obscured by the objects coordinates having been written in marker pen on this surface). The striking platform is present at the distal end and the point of percussion is visible. There are few visible ripple marks on this surface. The flint is…

Object type: BARBED AND TANGED ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An almost complete flint barb and tanged arrowhead dating from the Beaker period or the Early Bronze Age. The arrowhead is roughly triangular in plan with two semi-circular notches cut into the base to separate the barbs from the central tang. The barbs are of uneven length. The shorter of the two is almost indistinct. It terminates in a flat face suggesting it may originally have been longer but has been broken. The arrowhead is made from a secondary flake, there is a very small area of white cortex present at the highest point on one of the faces. The flake has been bifacially …

Object type: BARBED AND TANGED ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An almost complete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead from the Beaker period or the Early Bronze Age. The arrowhead is triangular in plan with two semi-circular notches cut into the base to separate the barbs from the central tang. The barbs are of uneven length. The tang is irregularly shaped and it appears as though one corner might have broken off. The arrowhead is made from a tertiary flake that has been bifacially worked with invasive, scaled, low angle retouch on both sides. The flint is patinated giving it an opaque white appearance with an area of grey/blue towards th…

An almost complete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating from the Beaker period or the Early Bronze Age. The arrowhead is triangular in plan with two semi-circular notches cut into the base to separate the barbs from the central tang. The very tip of the arrowhead has been broken off. The arrowhead is made from a tertiary flake that has been bifacially worked with scaled, low angle retouch on both sides. One face had a convex profile and is covered by the retouch. The other face is flatter and has long retouch running down the left hand side (when looking with tip at top) of t…

A complete knapped lithic implement of Bronze Age date, circa 2300 - 800 BC. The implement is a coarse scraper formed from a secondary flake which is sub-triangular with a tapering D-shaped section. The ventral surface is smooth with a visible bulb of percussion and striking platform. The dorsal surface displays little working except around the distal edge which has short, low angle, sub-parallel retouch to create the scraping edge. The flint is a mid-grey colour with small patches of recortication. The implement is 50.9mm long, 53.5mm wide, 17.7mm thick and weighs 35.6g. Scrap…

A complete knapped lithic implement of Bronze Age date, circa 2350 - 800 BC. The implement is a notched scraper formed from a secondary flake which is sub-trapezoidal in plan and rectangular in section. The ventral surface is smooth retaining its chalky white cortex. The dorsal surface is irregular with a large irregular notch at the proximal end. Shallow semi-invasive scaled retouch is present along the inner edge of the notch and around one projecting edge suggesting this may have functioned as a scraper proper. The flint is a dark blackish-grey colour with lighter inclusions. Th…
