Grey flint with light patches of misty patina, serrated implement. Flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the longest straight edge. The tip of the object is lost, probably to a recent break. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC.

Grey flint serrated implement. Flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with ripples on the ventral. The bulb has been flattened by angled retouch executed from the ventral aspect. A serrated edge was formed by very short abrupt retouch along a straight edge, executed from the dorsal aspect. This may have been superseded by subsequent angled retouch executed from the ventral aspect towards the opposite edge, which was followed by very short abrupt retouch also executed from the ventral aspect. This latter episode interrupts a misty patina which had accumulated on other …

Grey flint with cortex serrated implement. Flake with two parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side leaving a strip of cortex along one edge, and ripples on the ventral surface. Very fine serrations, more easily felt than observed, may be formed by very abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect along the long edge opposite that with cortex retained. Patches of misty patina may suggest the object was exposed to weathering for a period after its deposition. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC.

Grey flint with overall dense patina serrated implement. A bladelet or long flake with long parallel flakes removed from its dorsal side, a bulb on the ventral, and very short abrupt retouch along one side of the ventral surface forming a finely serrated cutting edge. The dense patina may indicate this object has endured prolonged exposure. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC.

Flint covered with dense creamy patina possible Serrated Implement. Flake with broad flakes removed from its dorsal side and with faint ripples on the ventral. Blue grey flint with cortex and slight patches of misty patina serrated implement. Flake with long parallel flakes removed from its dorsal side and hollowed and lightly rippled on the ventral. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect follows one straight edge, producing a blade whose serrations are more easily felt than observed. The limited extent of patina may suggest this object was incorporated into a sealed context shortly after manufacture. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC.

Black Flint with cortex. Possible serrated implement. Long triangular section flake with pressure flaked notches along all three arises. The probably deliberate working is supplemented by numerous scars caused by impact on these edges, rather than adjacent to them. The retention of cortex is sometimes seen as a trait of Mesolithic material, but here cannot have assisted the use of the object. One or both ends may also have seen use as awls. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC.

Honey coloured flint or chert. Serrated Implement fragment. Triangular section flake with long parallel flake removal scars on its dorsal aspect, and apparently broken close to a bulb of percussion on the ventral side. Pressure flaking forms two opposed serrated edges. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.

Honey coloured semi-translucent flint with cortex. Possible saw fragment. Long flake with two long parallel flake or cortex removal scars on its dorsa aspect, and a bulb of percussion and ripples on the ventral. Fine pressure flaking executed from both sides produced a finely serrated and probably subsequently worn cutting edge along the convex curve of one side; the more prominent flaking opposite this is the result of fortuitous impacts. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC.

Brown cloudy opaque flint of good quality. Possible flint knife or saw. Three long parallel flake removal scars on the dorsal aspect meet at the rounded end of a long straight sided flake; the ventral side bears a small bulb of percussion defining the round end described above. Fine retouch down both long sides executed from the dorsal side gives a very finely serrated double cutting edge. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic, 7000-3500 BC.

Grey flint serrated implement fragment, as kindly identified by the finder. Oval flake with two broad parallel flake removal scars on its dorsal aspect and ripple on its ventral side; the striking platform appears to have been lost at a straight fracture. One edge bears very fine denticulation which is more easily felt than seen (left hand side of first part of illustration) from retouch on the dorsal side. Covered overall with dense white patina. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC.

Flint with cortex possible serrated Implement fragment. Oval or ogival flake fragment with probably abrupt hard hammer trimming of cortex on the dorsal side, and with very slight denticulation along one edge (to left on first view) which is more easily felt than seen executed from the dorsal aspect. Chipped on the ventral side in antiquity, and covered by dense white patina suggesting a long period of weathering. Suggested date: possibly Bronze Age, 2350-800 BC.

Flint possible serrated Implement. Ogival flake with a point defined by two abruptly struck flake removal scars on the dorsal side. The point bears very fine denticulation, more easily felt than seen, along its two sides, probably executed from the dorsal aspect. Pressure flaking on the ventral side appears intended to afford a comfortable thumb rest. The object is covered by a dense creamy white patina suggesting an extended period of weathering. Semi-translucent dark grey flint of good quality, Serrated implement, as kindly identified by the finder citing Butler, C. 2005 [reprint 2012], Prehistoric Flintwork, page 131, plate 55 nos 1-3. Long slightly curving flake with five - in three cases parallel - flake removal scars on the dorsal side, and with a prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral. Finely denticulated edges have been formed by fine pressure flaking of two parallel edges, executed from the dorsal aspect (right in first illustration) and from the ventral aspect (left side in first illustration). Blue grey flint, possibly collected from the East Coast, serrated implement. A curved flake with long thin parallel flakes struck from the dorsal side, a band of cortex probably deliberately retained to permit pressure to be exerted, and short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect along the longest, concave, side. The lack of patina may suggest this object was incorporated into a sealed context shortly after deposition. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC.
