Pale cream coloured opaque flint scraper. A small thick flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and with a striking platform at one end of a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved edge on one side, possibly hinting at a left-handed user. Battered. Pale blue-grey opaque flint debitage. Six small thin flakes [length 35.2mm to 20.9mm] with cortex spots, all with long narrow parallel flakes struck from their dorsal sides and four retaining a tiny bulb at the end of slightly concave ventral surfaces. Blue-grey flint point. A sub-triangular flake with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at one end of a slightly concave ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge for two thirds of its extent. The point is very fresh and perhaps unused when the object was deposited. Object type: BACKED BLADE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale grey opaque flint with cortex spot, possible backed blade. A thick flake with broad and narrow parallel flakes removed from its two broad sides by unidirectional hard hammer strike. Short abrupt retouch, probably executed from the dorsal aspect, follows part of the curved edge opposite the platform.  It appears that the platform was retained to enable pressure to be brought to bear on the opposite curved cutting edge. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 25.9mm, Width: 23.6mm, Thickness: 13mm, Weight: 7.15gms

Cream coloured opaque flint with cortex, scraper. An oval pebble with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface with a striking platform at one side. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows that part of the curving edge opposite the striking platform, which seems to have served as a butt. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC Length: 23.1mm, Width: 34.6mm, Thickness: 9mm, Weight: 7.63gms

Cream coloured opaque flint with rust staining from gravel, serrated implement. A thin flake with narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a slightly concave ventral surface with a tiny bulb at its [stained] end. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge. Save for the retouch, very similar to debitage flakes NLM-37A5B1. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC Length: 38.6mm, Width: 15.7mm, Thickness: 3.4mm, Weight: 2.32gms

Pale grey opaque flint debitage. Four long thin flakes, of length 48.7mm to 38mm, all with long narrow parallel flakes struck from their dorsal surfaces – in a fashion so consistent as to suggest the work of one hand – and all with smooth slightly concave ventral surfaces, with a tiny bulb at the end of three; the fourth and thinnest is chipped. Pale grey flint barbed and tanged arrowhead. A small triangular arrowhead bearing covering angled scalar retouch overall, with two tapered barbs [one chipped] between a tapered tang. A lentoid longitudinal profile marks a very efficient weapon tip combining its penetrative power and barbs with light weight. Pale grey flint with cortex backed blade. A sub-triangular flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side, and with a positive hinge fracture along one long edge. A bulbar ventral surface has had about three large flakes removed by hard hammer strike, the last being in the same position as the first flake trimmed to produce a robust triangular section cutting edge. The rounded surface of the hinged fracture would enable pressure to be brought to bear on the opposite putative working edge. Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale grey flint possible debitage. A thin flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a bulb at the narrow end of its ventral side. A dense creamy patina then developed over struck surfaces, suggesting a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. A further large flake was subsequently detached from the ventral side of the flake using the same striking platform as had figured in the initial working. A serrated appearance along the longest edge of the flake may, however, be misleading as it appears to arise from a series of fortuitously occurring edge-on chips. Suggested…

Pale grey flint possible debitage. Two large flakes with broad flakes struck from their dorsal sides and with bulbar ventral surfaces. The larger flake [right] may also have had broad flakes trimmed by angled scalar retouch executed from the ventral aspect, an episode probably followed by a [natural] pot lid fracture. Dense white patina suggests the flints then endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Combined Weight: 39.89gms

Pale grey flint possible scraper. A thin flake with opposed concave edges with fine serrations that are more readily felt than observed, and a third concave side, all probably worn by passing use as a possibly improvised ‘shaft straightener’ or hollow scraper. Pale grey flint possible scraper. Flint possible debitage. An irregular flake with an unevenly battered dorsal side and a bulb at one end of its ventral surface. A subsequent episode entailed the formation of a narrow rippled scar by invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the ventral aspect. A dense white patina across all struck surfaces suggests they have subsequently endured exposure to a calcareous environment. Were this environment not to occur locally, it might hint that they had been imported together with chalk brought to marl fields or for road construction. Dark grey flint debitage. A tiny chunk with parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and  with a slightly undulating ventral surface. A slight patina across struck surfaces may suggest a brief subsequent exposure to a calcareous environment, and is interrupted by adventitious chipping. Pale grey and banded flint possible point. A trapezoid chunk with pointed end with a positive hinge fracture conferring a smooth surface to the longest edge which terminates in a sharp point. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a short angled edge extending from the point. The ventral surface is flat, though a bulbar surface on the side opposite the hinge fracture is also smooth and with an adjacent hollow affords a thumb rest. Pale grey flint with cortex spot, probably from the Wolds, possible debitage. Four small flakes or chips of flint which was probably imported from the Wolds to this area. The largest chip has scars from multangular working; the two others of middling size are of uncertain status, and the smallest bears scars from the removal of at least three tiny chips and a flat ventral surface.
