Pale brown flint possible borer. A thin triangular flake with a tiny triangular point projecting from its shortest side. A pair of flakes were removed from the dorsal side, while the ventral surface is slightly bulbar. Short abrupt retouch delivered from both the dorsal and ventral aspects formed the point, with a further strip of very short abrupt retouch delivered from the ventral aspect along part of one of the longer sides. Buff flint borer. Rhomboid flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the edges to form a rounded projecting point. Dense milky patina suggests the object has subsequently endured exposure to a calcareous environment. Grey flint with cortex spot and re-forming cortex, borer. Rhomboid flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with larger flakes struck from the ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the converging sides of the putative working point. Patches of patina suggest the object has endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment; they are lost along one aris. Dark grey flint with cortex skin, appearing slightly greenish-brown under transmitted light, possibly collected from the East Coast, borer. A flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a prominent bulb on its ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect defines a hollow next to a projecting point; very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect trims both sides of the point, including a long straight edge [left of the point as presented here] with a positive hinge fracture at its end. There is no patination, so this object may recently h…

Flint borer. A thick sub-triangular flake with broad flakes detached by hard hammer strike from its dorsal side, defining a narrow three-sided projection. The ventral surface is bulbar, with a hollow at the top [as illustrated]. Dense creamy patina and rust spotting suggests the object was subsequently incorporated into calcareous gravels; a history which tends to point to an early date for its use. Flint possible borer. A thick sub-triangular flake with broad flakes removed by hard hammer from its dorsal side and with a flat ventral surface. Angled retouch executed from the dorsal aspect defines a short [now] six-sided point. A dense creamy patina suggests the object was subsequently exposed to a calcareous environment, a common feature of flint reported hereabouts, though apparently unrelated to the local geology. Pale grey flint borer. Sub-triangular flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb on its ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from dorsal and ventral aspects defines a short facetted point. One of the edges leading to the springing of the point also bears very fine serrations. Pale patina suggests subsequent exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 31.1mm, Width: 22.6mm, Thickness: 7.1mm, Weight: 4.80gms

Pale grey-buff flint with cortex, possible borer, as kindly suggested by the finder. A small thick sub-triangular flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Patches of misty patina suggest the object endured a limited period of exposure to a calcareous environment. The patina is removed by very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect to define a short point, in which case cortex may have been retained to enable pressure to be brought to bear on the point. This may indicate either the reuse of an old flake or light and fortuitous da…

Dark grey flint with pale banding, borer. A thin flake with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at the narrower end of a rippled and lightly concave ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch at one end, possibly executed a time after the initial working, and from the dorsal aspect, defines an angled point at one end. Dark grey flint with cortex, possible borer. A small flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a flat and lightly rippled ventral surface. Light misty patina formed over struck surfaces suggests the object then endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. The patina was later removed by short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect to define a short and [now] blunt point. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.
