Tertiary, hard hammer struck flake of black patinated flint in slightly rolled condition with slight losses to the thin edges and the high points of the flake scars, the dorsal face has a pronounced triangular cross section, the very peak in itself has been used as a platform and a deep, hinged flake driven in towards the lateral edge, probably in an (unsuccessful) attempt to reduce the thickness at this point, or it was a naturally occurring flake already within the surface of the flint to begin with, the condition of the edges makes reading of any retouch tricky, though many of the s…

Small, asymmetric handaxe in fairly fresh condition, of mottled grey flint, now lightly patinated dark brownish apart from the cortex extant to the dorsal face, this is thin, but retains the chalky off-white colour. Being under ten cm long, it is classified as a Wymer (1999) type E, the asymmetry to the profile (plano-convex) and plan (one edge appears to have been intentionally blunted, for handling?) is probably due to the shape of the blank from which it was made from, likely to have been a thermal (frost) fracture or a large struck flake, something of similar cross section to begin…

A piece of flint debitage probably from Neolithic Blade production dating to, c. 4000-2400 BC.  The flake is made from a tertiary flint of semi-glossy dark grey with lighter patches.  The blade is trapezoidal in shape and has a curved, thin profile.  The striking platform survives as does a small sized bulb of percussion from which several shallow concentric ripples emanate. A single negative removal scar from the same direction is present on the dorsal face.   Overall the flake is 26.77mm long, 19.28mm wide at the apex tapering to 7.66mm at the bas…

A flint retouched flake of unknown date, Mesolithic to Iron Age, 10000 BC - 1 BC. It is a rectangular flake of high quality light grey flint with a small patch of cortex on the right corner of the proximal end. The dorsal face is covered with previous removal scars. There are a few low angle, scaled, short removals on the ventral face at the distal end, and some possible abrupt short, sub-parallel retouch on the proximal end, which could be edge damage. Four waste flakes made from tertiary material, with no cortex remaining. They are likely made of grey flint, but have all been recorticated displaying a white patina of varying degrees. Three of the four flakes are elongate and therefore indicate blade production, likely of Mesolithic to Neolithic date (c. 7000 - 3500 BC). Flake 1: This is the smallest of the four flakes, and irregular in shape. It has a low-medium gloss white patina, but some grey is visible. The striking platform is narrow and the ventral face shows a low bulb of percussion. The dorsal face …

Small cordate/sub cordate, of Wymer (1999) type E/D/J, of lightly rolled and slightly patinated black flint with paler grey inclusions, now a grey/brown colour, the damage to the point is a pronounced flake scar, this has a slightly matt surface compared to the glossy nature of the original worked surfaces, this is likely to be from being cast on to other flints and stones during bad weather by the sea, also this is the likely cause of the incipient hertzian cones that appear as small impact rings to both faces, both faces appear to be entirely modified by hard hammer struck flake scar…
