Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A retouched flint flake of suggested middle Neolithic to early Bronze Age date c. 3300-1000 BC.  The secondary flake is elongated and sub-triangular in plan and cross-section; a small section of cortex surviving at the distal edge which has a chip at the terminal with fresh breaks suggesting more recent damage. The ventral surface is slightly concave with a pronounced bulb of percussion and raised rippling suggested hard hammer working. The dorsal surface has five removal scars with crude removals at the proximal end, possibly damage, but some finer …

A flint waste flake (debitage) probably of late Mesolithic to Neolithic date and reworked at a later Neolithic to Bronze age date. The flint appears to have been hard hammer struck from a secondary flake, with a pronouced bulb of percussion and single striking platform with surviving cortex. On the dorsal face is a deep smooth concave thumb shaped depression with a single arise. There are crude removals, possibly damage at the end of the arise near the distal edge. The flake has been retouched on multiple areas with regular long scaled abrupt retouch comprising four rem…

A long flint flake possibly utilised as a blade of late Mesolithic to early Neolithic date, c.8000 - 3300 BC. Description: The blade is formed from a long narrow tertiary flake, which has snapped off at the distal end with an old patinated break and a hinge fracture at the proximal end. It is broadly triangular in cross-section with a slightly concave ventral surface. The bulb of percussion is very low with slight, shallow conchoidal rippling suggesting the use of a soft hammer.
