Semi-translucent grey-buff flint, with traces of patina and some cortex. Debitage. Curved concavo-convex flake bearing thin parallel blade-removal scars on its convex surface, and possible pressure flaking at one end of the same surface. The material appears eminently suitable for working, and all fracture surfaces appear fresh. Working has removed patina from most of the object. If this working indeed took place in antiquity, the object may have been removed from a hitherto undisturbed context. Suggested date: Possibly Neolithic, 3500-2100 BC. Length: 33.5mm, Width: 1…

Grey slightly cloudy Flint. Debitage. Oval flint with fresh hard-hammer removal of flakes from one surface; damage resulting in the removal of convex flakes, perhaps ancient, occurs on the other face, which is lightly patinated. The freshly worked surfaces all appear very sharp and well-defined. If working indeed took place in antiquity, it was apparently abandoned before this object could be used, and the object must have been removed from a hitherto undisturbed context. Suggested date: Possibly Neolithic, 3500-2100 BC.

The dorsal face bears cloudy whitish patina beneath the chips of hard hammer working; the ventral face is without patina and with conchoidal fractures from hard hammer working in various directions. The edges are sharp and apparently unfinished; the object may have broken in the course of manufacture. Suggested date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, 2500-1500 BC. Dark Grey Flint, high quality, perhaps collected from the East Coast. Knife. Fragment of a flat, possibly discoid, flint knife, with a finely smoothed cutting edge formed by polish extending about 7mm from the edge. The fragment is now sub-triangular, representing a segment from a larger object with breaks on either side. Both upper and lower surfaces bear scars from hard and soft hammer working and pressure flaking, with the edge polished completely smooth on both sides. The selection of apt material and the quality of work indicates a Neolithic date, while the finely po…

Struck flake with prominent ripples from hard hammer working, and either slight retouch or damage. Dark blue-black flint with white surface staining, East Coast flint from Glacial Drift. Possibly Debitage as identified by finder; this reporter regards evidence for 'working' as natural damage. Flat ovate fragment of dark flint with chipping all around its edges. The rippling from these chips appears to run inwards from the edge of the object, and probably result from the object rolling in surf.
