Record ID: NLM-8F8C84
Object type: BACKED BLADE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Dark grey flint with cortex, possible backed blade. Small triangular-section flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a positive hinge fracture at one end of its ventral surface. Edge-on impacts impart a probably misleading impression of serration. The lack of patina on struck surfaces may point to the subsequent incorporation of the object into a sealed deposit. Cortex has re-formed over one plane of the dorsal side. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 22.3mm, Width: 19.0mm, Thickness: 6.3mm, Weight: 3.09gms

Opaque grey-buff flint with cortex spot, backed blade. A narrow sub-triangular flake with long parallel flakes removed from its dorsal side and with a flat ventral surface, together producing a triangular section. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge, and also forms a notch in the opposite edge. A lack of patina may suggest the object was subsequently incorporated into a sealed deposit. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 53.2mm, Width: 18.4mm, Thickness: 9.0mm, Weight: 7.78gms

Dark grey flint with cortex, scraper. A small chunk with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side by multangular working, and with an undulating ventral surface. Long angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows two adjoining straight sides. Invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the ventral aspect trims the probable site of a bulb. Struck surfaces subsequently acquired patches of misty patina suggesting a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Opaque grey-buff flint lithic implement. A rounded flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side, and with a bulbar at one side of the ventral surface with a positive hinge fracture opposite it. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows part of the curved edge to produce a scraper. The opposite edge, where the butt of the scraper might lie, has been trimmed by angled scalar retouch also executed from the dorsal aspect, to produce a short boring or piercing ppint. The lack of patina may hint at the incorporation of the object into a sealed deposit. Suggested da…
