An assemblage of three side scrapers probably dating from the the Neolithic to Early Bronze Age. Scraper 1 has been struck off a secondary flake and retains some thin mottled brown pebble cortex on its dorsal surface. The flint is a variable mottled grey/brown colour colour with a dark grey band, off white inclusions and lighter patches. It has a semi-glossy patina. The scraper is sub-rectangular in plan with the left and right edges being curved and the proximal and distal edges being on angles. The right edge, as seen when looking at the dorsal face has very short parallel, semi abr…

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC). The arrowhead is approximately 95% complete, missing a small fragment from the bottom. The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, consisting of a pointed oval shape.. It has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage as no cortex (outer rind) is visible on either the dorsal (upper) and ventral (lower) faces. Both dorsal and ventral face exhibit controlled flaking. The ventral face just has the retouch along the edge, whereas on the dorsal face, it covers the surface. The retouch ca…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete flint hollow scraper, of probable Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age dating (3300 BC to 1000 BC). The scraper is irregular in shape, with a triangular cross section. It consists of a wider end, which then narrows to a thinner square end. A deliberate circular notch has been taken out of one side, with abrupt, short, acute retouch around it and along the edge below it. A small amount of cortex is present at the wide end. It measures 40.7 mm in length, a maximum width of 15.3 mm and 6.1 mm thick. It weighs 3.2 g. The flint is a mid to dark grey colour, with little surfac…

County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age flint horseshoe scraper (c. 2700 BC-c. 1601 BC). This implement is roughly triangular in plan and cross-section. It has been made on a secondary flake and has no striking platform. One edge is almost vertical and its junction with the cortex has been battered, possibly to make it more comfortable for handling. The dorsal face has about 50% cortex. A small node on the cortex has also been battered and there is a large flake scar with ripples. Retouch extends from level with the node to the lower edge of the lower part of the scar where ther…

County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Neolithic or Bronze Age flint implement, probably a borer (c. 4000 BC-c. 1601 BC). The point is missing. This implement is sub-triangular in plan and roughly lozenge-shaped in cross-section. The curved base rises evenly to the maximum width and then abruptly tapers to small transverse break. There is some rough battering on one face, just below the break and along one edge as far as the maximum width. Length: 32.3mm; width: 29.0mm; thickness: 6.0mm. Weight: 6.53g.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A broad tertiary debitage / blade flake c. 4500 - 3000 BC. The lithic is broadly leaf shaped in a pale grey chert. There is a modest platform with a percussion bulb and bulbar scar at the top of the ventral surface, which then has a slightly undulating surface to the distal end. The dorsal face has a pair of converging ridges with conchoidal ripple marks to their centre. The edges have no clear deliberate input to form a scrapper/blade although that which has the look of scaled retouch, is likely to be from its time in the ground. Some intervention to form a blade/scrapper can't be rul…

A blunt nosed lithic scraper from a secondary flake, probably later Neolithic to early Bronze age c. 2500 - 1500 BC. The scrapper looks to be formed on a reused, or reworked waste flake and or debitage of chert/flint. Roughly an hourglass in plan with large double mesial notches and broad in section, it is formed on an opaque dull grey chert, with modest amounts of off-white staining and a large section of cortex to the dorsal surface.
