A complete flint end scraper dating to the late Mesolithic to early Neolithic period (c.8000-3300 BC).  The object is made from a grey / purple flint with some of the cortex remaining. It has a thin serrated edge and evidence of retouch on the scraper edge. Dimensions: Length 31mm; width 13.7mm; thickness 5.5mm; weight 2.93g This object is a part of a collection of flints that have been recovered from three fields over a number of decades. The group includes arrowheads and flakes demonstrating the different phases of flint working. Objects from this group are recorded unde…

A complete Neolithic flint end scraper dating to c. 4000-2400 BC. The scraper is produced from a hard hammer struck secondary flake. The flint is dark grey in colour with some buff coloured cortex remaining. The sub-circular distal end has abrupt and semi-abrupt retouch used to produce a working edge. The dorsal side has a large negative scar resulting in a depression where the thumb would be placed which would allow the user to exert more pressure when in use.  Length: 66.09mm; width: 40.38mm; thickness: 18.97mm and weight: 35.9…

A crude flint end scraper. Made on a tertiary flake of  patchy grey flint. It has a matt patina. There is a low bulb of percussion and a small striking platform at the proximal end and faint waves of percussion on the ventral face. On the dorsal face are several flake removal scars and angular fractures (probably due to the low quality of the flint). The tip of the distal end has a small area of abrupt, irregular retouch creating a working edge. Date: Bronze Age 2350 - 800 BC Dimensions: 58.5 mm x 41.5 mm x 11.5 mm Weight: 33.5 g

A flint bifaced tool, possibly an axehead Neolithic date (c. 4000- 2400 cal BC) or possibly Mesolithic date. The piece is a tertiary piece of flint that is an off white colour with large white patches and occasional white speckles and a semi glossy patina.  The flake is rectangular in plan with irregular edges. The piece has at least seven earlier flake removals on its dorsal surface struck in multiple directions as this flake. The reverse is less clear, partly due to a hinge fracture in the removal of the flake but also due to several potential removals.…

A worked flint flake of probable Neolithic date, 67.6mm in length, made from a light grey flint. The flake has a clear bulb of percussion on the underside, with a dorsal surface covered in flake removal scars with at least two directions of orientation, suggesting the flake was struck off of a worked core. The distal edge has suffered extensive post depositional damage which has obscured any evidence of retouch. The form is however consistent with use as a scraper.

A very fine example of a complete Neolithic endscraper dating to c. 4000-2400 BC. The end scraper is made from a secondary flake of flint. with c.40% of its dorsal surface retraining a thin light orange pebble cortex. The rest of the flake is a mottled grey white colour with darker grey inclusions and patches. This has a glossy patina. The scraper is sub-triangular in plan. It has two long angular edged extending from the one point, the striking platform of the flake, extending to the distal end of the flake which is flat. The scraper is trapezoidal in cross section with a …

A flint end-scraper made on a thick flake of a brown-orange flint. The scraper is sub-square in plan and broadly rectangular in profile, although the large bulb is retained on the reverse. There has been some recortication of the scraper, with this extending over the hard hammer retouching on the right side of the distal end. There are more modern removals (cutting through the patina of the recortication) to the left hand edge. This piece is hard to date as its execution is generally undiagnostic, however it is potentially Palaeolithic (c. 450,000-10,000 BC).
