A Roman glass intaglio dating to the period c.AD 200-300. The intaglio is oval in plan and depicts a simplified figure with a staff standing on a base line. The glass is chipped in places on the front, sides and reverse. The reverse also exhibits copper alloy corrosion on its surface. The glass is green-blue in colour and translucent. The intaglio measures 14.74mm in lenth, 12.57mm in width, 5.29mm in thickness and weighs 1.44g. A probable cast copper alloy imitation intaglio of Roman date. The oval 'intaglio' measures 16.1mm by 12.9mm by 2.6mm and weighs 1.5g. The front has a raised border and there are traces of solder on the reverse. The edge is slightly damaged in places. The 'intaglio' would probably have formed the setting for a finger ring.
