Description: A complete post medieval gold “posy” finger ring, made from a rich yellow buttery gold. The band is narrow and D-shaped in cross section, with no external decoration or inscription. Post medieval gold post ring dating to 1725 to 1800. Th ring is D-shaped in cross section with a flat inner face and convex outer. On the inner face is inscribed: I joy to find a constant mind. The inscripltion is in italics and is followed by a makers mark. The mark is a five sided recessed shape with a horizontal top, straight sides and pointed base within which are the raised initials S over G H, the S flanked by pellets and with a third pellet below. Contemporary copy of a gold noble of Henry VI (first reign) dating to AD 1422 to 1427. Annulet issue. London mint. Copying North (1991) no. 1414. The coin has two outer sheets of probably slightly debased gold around a base metal core. The core has now degraded and the outer metal has slightly tarnished, betraying the false metal. Post deposition damage in the form of a tear to one side shows the hollow centre where the core has decayed. Description: Gold finger ring formed of a succession of eighteen conjoined lobes. Each lobe is sub-rectangular with a shallowly domed front and straightened sides where it abuts the next lobe. The lobes are similar in size all the way around the ring although with very slight variations. The inner side is flat and plain giving the ring a D-shaped cross section. The smooth inner side and junctions suggests the lobes were formed by indenting the lines between them rather than formed separately and joined. Description: A fragment from a gold bar shaped ingot with a sub-oval cross section that has flattened upper and lower faces and convex sides. At each end the piece has been hammered top and bottom to thin it. It has then been broken leaving a hackled irregular break at each end. One break shows more clearly the multiple marks from thinning and has also become wider as it was thinned. There are several scratches to the surface in addition to pitting and marks from abrasion. The ring is in the shape of an oval-sectioned loop and has an oval cross-section with slightly flattened inner and outer faces.
