Purple Welsh Slate Slate fragment with bevelled edge. One side bears scored parallel lines circa 13mm apart and the other side bears a series of 12mm squares. This is a schoolroom slate, with the lined side for practicing handwriting, and the squared size for arithmetic. This object was reported along with a slate pencil. Suggested date: Modern, 1860-1920. Iron spanner, as kindly suggested by the finder. A large wrought iron object with a passing resemblance to an outsize key. The ‘bow’ is of angular quatrefoil form with concave faces between straighter edges; the stem is of rectangular section, and terminates in an E-shaped ‘bit’ with angular sides to its central leg and rounded outer edges to the others. The finder, a farmer, kindly suggests this is a 19th-century spanner for the removal of a wheel hub, though the distinct configurations at either end may hint at a range of related functions. The material used is local Wolds flint, appears to be an unfinished axe with some of the cortex still on the surface . Probably an impurity within the flint caused the artefact to break during manufacture.

Two fragments one is 27.5mm by 29.9mm by 14.2mm wide, the other is 30.3mm by 22mm by 10.2mm wide. Both are dark brown, number of flakes removed over the whole of the surface, small part of the cortex remains on each, no clear working surface.

A short tube comprising an outer skin of lead sheet of thickness 1.5mm with a loosely butted seam, but incorporating two tiny rounded conduits of diameter 2mm within. This might be apt to serve as an insulating jacket around two strands of an electric cable of conductive material.
