A fragment of a medieval copper-alloy composite buckle. The remains of an iron rivet are still evident with similarly sized and shaped copper-alloy frame fragments extant on both sides of where the pin would sit, being roughly rectangular in shape and cross section with a lobed half end which would have been the tops of the spacer forks. The thin section attaching the pieces of frame would have held a pin (now missing) and are rectangular with square cross sections. The globular piece is the only extant piece of frame which would have been visible. Measurements: Length:…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle probably of post-medieval date. The buckle was formed of a pair of oval loops; one has been lost to an old break at the junction of frame and pin bar. The extant loop has an effectively flat reverse, with possible central concavity from the casting process. The front is bevelled both externally and internally, the latter more steeply. There are hints of very small protrusions at each end of the pin bar. A thick sheet copper-alloy pin is still attached.  Measurements: 15 mm in length, 22 mm in width and 2.35 …

An incomplete medieval copper-alloy buckle plate (c. AD 1200-1400), now folded round on itself into a squashed loop. It is uncertain whether this folding was for a particular purpose, perhaps for reuse as a thimble, of if it was more accidental. Around half of the rectangular plate survives, having been broken a the weak point where is would have been folded and recessed for a buckle frame, with a slot for the pin; one of the tabs survives. At the terminal there are two circular perforations, one towards each corner. The external surface of the plate is decorated with a punc…

A post-medieval copper-alloy double looped oval buckle, dating to c. AD 1550-1650, incomplete insofar as it is missing its pin. A cast, copper-alloy post-medieval asymmetrical buckle dating to c. 1575-1700, incomplete insofar as it is missing its pin. One loop is broadly rectangular and the other loop is D-shaped. The inside of the D-shape loop has a pointed protrusion which could be where the pin rested. The pin bar is notably narrow, though the frame overall has suffered from corrosion, depriving us of much of the original surface and thus any decoration. The reverse of the buckle is flat. A medieval cast copper-alloy rectangular double-looped buckle frame, incomplete only insofar as it is missing its pin. The central pin bar is circular in cross-section, narrowed and set back.
