An incomplete copper-alloy La Tene III/Nauheim derivative type bow brooch dating to the late Iron Age or early Roman period, from c.100 BC to AD 100.  The bow is triangular in shape and consists of a thin, flat piece of copper alloy. At the head of the brooch at the front the bow extends back, narrowing and curving into a coiled round spring. Only one coil survives and this ends in a worn break. The pin running from one of the coils is lost. A worn uninscribed copper-alloy Iron Age stater of the Durotriges, South Western region, dating from c. 65 BC to AD 45. The coin is of the "Cranborne Chase" type. Due to wear, the shape of the coin is sub-triangular - like that of a shield. On the obverse, all that remains is a vertical pin shape that covers almost half the surface, with a wide crescent above it and another narrow crescent shape to the right of this. Near the bottom right hand edge of the obverse, are a group of worn pellets. On the reverse, much of the surface is covered by very worn pellets r…

An unusual porcine fitting of the insular La Tène tradition, probably dating from the 1st century BC to 1st century AD. It is possible this fitting is for a vessel, but it is so far unparalleled in type. There are two other ‘head’ fittings known (OXON-6E3722 and HESH-06696B), but they are very different in design, and this find does not appear to be related to them. The lack of the portrayal of tusks, a hint of a dorsal ridge and large, pointed, forward facing ears are not definitive enough to label this example a wild boar, and so it is classed as a porcine of mix…

The object is formed of a single thick strand of wire which is D-shaped in section, although very much flattened for wear. The terminals overlap, and taper to a more slender point. As both terminals taper, they appear finished, however, other examples exhibit a larger number of coils of the spiral, so the object may not be complete. They are generally dated either to the late Bronze Age or to the Iron Age/Roman period as for this example. An incomplete cast copper alloy Iron Age or Roman mount dating to the period c. 300BC - AD 100. It is possibly a decorative shield clip, although it has also been suggested that this type of mount derives from a bucket, tankard or vessel. As this example contains remnants of iron decay in its interior, it has been suggested that it may originate from a bucket style vessel, akin to those of the Aylesford Swarling type (J. Ahmet pers.comm). It is formed of a single sheet of copper alloy which is now tubular in shape. It has a series of curving ridges which give it a sligh…
