A worn uninscribed copper-alloy Iron Age stater of the Durotriges, South Western region, dating from c. 65 BC to AD 45. The coin is of the "Cranborne Chase" type. Due to wear, the shape of the coin is sub-triangular - like that of a shield. A copper-alloy mount in the form of a lion couchant modelled in relief on the front face but flat on the rear face. The front face has a slightly melted appearance as though a blob of metal has been dropped on it, with consquent loss of some decorative detail.
