Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content for the ring fragment of 90-94%, the rest being copper; it weighs 2.1 grams. The ring has a flat, sub-circular, slightly convex bezel with narrow stubs of the ends of the hoop on either side; the rest of the hoop is missing; diameter, 16 mm (max); width, 24 mm. Anglo-Saxon small-long brooch, copper alloy, dating to the fifth or sixth century AD. The brooch possesses a rectangular head plate with a slightly raised square central panel. A copper alloy zoomorphic brooch dating to the second century AD. The brooch is in the form of a duck. The body is sub-oval in shape and has been divided into two sub-triangular cells representing wings. Each cell is filled with degraded red enamel. A rib runs centrally the length of the body and extends to the neck, head and beak of the bird. Remnants of knurled tinning/silvering are visible adhering to this rib. A complete pair of copper alloy tweezers, probably dating to the Roman period. The tweezers are formed from a single strip of metal bent into a semi-circular loop at the mid point. The arms are rectangular in plan and section and do not taper. They are decorated with two marginal grooves. The end of each arm is bent in at an angle of approximately 40 degrees. The tweezers measure 31mm in length and 4mm in width. There is a similar example (No. 1879) illustrated in Crummy (1983) 'The Roman small finds from excavations in Colchester 1971-9'.

A lead steelyard weight dating to the Roman period. The weight is primarily bi-conical in shape with the remains of an iron suspension loop extending from both ends. However the weight is significantly misshapen on one side, giving the appearance best described as ‘something having exploded outwards from within the weight, resulting in the lead having parted (mostly on one of the two cones, i.e. the upper cone being more effected than the lower) and pushed outwards. The coin has a diameter of c.17.05mm falling into Reece & James's size category 'I' (Reece, R. & James, S.1994, p.40). It is 1.67mm thick, weighs 2.32g and has a die axis of 6 o'clock. A copper-alloy Anglo-Saxon small-long brooch of 5th or 6th century date. The remains of this brooch consist of a trapezoidal head plate, the longest side of which is nearest the top knob, flat semicircular side and head knobs, and an arched bow. There are no wings to the head plate. The brooch has broken off at the point where the bow would have joined the foot plate. Behind the head plate an integral pin lug 9.16mm x 9.02mm is filled in with the corroded remains of an Iron pin. Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch knob. The knob is approximately semi-circular and comprises two zoomorphic heads with curled tongues extending from a T shaped central panel. A copper-alloy hooked tag dating to the ninth century AD. The body of the hooked tag is flat and oval in shape; it has a pair of sewing holes in projecting lobes at the top, and is decorated with a central circular panel of niello inlaid with three back-to-back C-shaped scrolls of silver wire. There is a border of a border of blind-drilled dots around both the sewing holes and the central panel, and a pair of tiny lobes to either side of the (now missing) hook. The break here is old and worn. The underside is flat and undecorated. The tag measures 23mm in length and 15mm in width. …

A well preserved copper alloy lock bolt dating to the Roman period. The lock bolt comprises a rectangular sectioned stem which extends to a rectangular plate with triangular cut outs creating a pattern in reserve metal resembling '/IX'. The largest of the cut outs shows signs of wear. On the underside of the lock bolt, the cut outs are surrounded by three rectangular section 'walls'. The lock bolt measures 66mm in length, 13mm in width and has a maximum thickness of 8mm. Similar examples are described by Crummy (1983), p.124, especially no. 4136.
