An arrowhead, formed from tertiary flint, that is either barbed and tanged with the barbs having broken off or was originally a leaf shaped arrowhead that has been reworked to have a tang at the middle of the lower edge. The arrowhead is bifacially worked with covering low angle parallel retouch on the ventral side. The other side has long to invasive low angle scaled retouch. The arefact has recorticated although this has been removed at the base of the arrowhead around the tang. It is uncertain whether this is a result of reworking or later depositional damage. Weight is 1.70g, leng…

A Neolithic polished flint axehead with retouch and post-depositional damage. The axehead has a pointed oval to almost lozenge shaped cross section. A lot of the polished surface has been removed by retouch and small amounts of damage. The polished surface survives predominantly along the centre of both sides which then extends, flaring into a fan shape, to cover all of the blade end. Retouch is present along both edges of both sides of the axehead and around both sides of the butt end giving the appearance of an axe rough-out with only partial polish. Small irregular shaped areas of …

An Early to Middle Neolithic polished stone axehead dating c. 4000-3300 BC. This axehead has a pointed-oval cross section. One side edge has a slight flattened lateral facet, the opposing side edge having a subtler flattened lateral facet that could easily be missed during a very quick examination of this artefact thus giving the impression of a lateral rounded-pointed edge. The artefact weighs 290.74g, has a length of 126.5mm, maximum width of 60.5mm and maximum thickness of 31.7mm. The type of stone used to create this axehead has not yet been fully identified however the finder …

An incomplete fragment of polished Neolithic axehead. This axehead has been broken in half along the linial profile so that only one side of the profile survives. The axehead has also been broken transversely to the butt-end and blade-end. This means that the original shape and cross-sectional shape and profile shape of the artefact has been lost. At least one hinge fracture is present. Damage is also present along both edges.

A small partially polished stone axehead of Neolithic date. The cross-section is oval. The weight is 172.06g, length is 99.8mm, maximum width is 41.0mm and maximum thickness is 29.6mm. This axehead is a greenstone, similar to Cornish greenstone although full scientific analysis would need to be conducted to determine this conclusively. The stone would have been pecked into shape before a half-hearted attempt to polish the the stone to the finished product. An attempt to polish the axehead can be seen on the tip and on a bit of the sides. This axehead has suffered post-depositional abr…

It is concave, circular in shape, and has three small circular perforations spaced at regular intervals around its circumference. It has a diameter of 31mm and a thickness of 3mm. Similar circular pans, with the same or larger dimensions, are known from deposits of c. 1270-c.1400 in London (Egan 1998, nos. 1039-1043) but Margeson suggests that they were still in use in the early post-medieval period (1993, 204-5).

A slightly incomplete barbed and tanged flint arrowhead of Early to Middle Bronze Age date 2400-1001 BC. The tip of one barb has broken off but this appears to be the only area of damage to the artefact. This artefact has a very flattened oval cross section. The retouch is short to long but definately not invasive or covering resulting in a large central area on both surfaces of flat non-retouched flint, possibly due to the presence of an impurity through the centre of the arrowhead. The retouch is parallel with an area that appears to be scaled. The angle of this retouch is semi-a…

An incomplete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead. This arrowhead was a tertiary flint object but has since completely recorticated. The only area where recortication is not present is at the tips of the barbs which have broken off. The artefact is bifacially worked, the retouch covering one side and being invasive - almost covering - on the other side. On the invasive side just a narrow (2.0mm) length (18.1mm) does not show retouch, the initial longitudinal working of the flint visible through the surrounding retouch. A pale green monochrome glass bead, probably dating to the early Anglo-Saxon period. The bead is cylindrical in shape with a circular perforation. The bead has a length of 6mm and a diameter of 8mm. The bead is similar to some found in early Anglo-Saxon inhumation burials at Barrington in Cambridgeshire (e.g. Malim and Hines 1998, fig. 3.32, no. 63; also see p. 207-9), but small green glass beads are also known from other periods (e.g. Roman, medieval and post-medieval).
