A copper-alloy contemporary copy of a nummus of the House of Constantine. Mint uncertain, c.330-40, Reece period 17. Obverse shows Helmeted bust right. Obverse legend reads (CONSTANTINOPOLIS). Reverse shows Victory standing left on prow. Reverse legend is illegible. Reverse mint mark is: //PLG. Condition is fine, die axis is 6 o'clock, weight is 0.98g, diameter is 14mm. A copper-alloy Roman Nummus, of the House of Constantine, VRBS ROMA, Wolf and twins, Arles, AD 333. RIC VII, no. 373. Reece 17.
The coin has a diameter of c.17.05mm falling into Reece & James's size category 'I' (Reece, R. & James, S.1994, p.40). It is 1.67mm thick, weighs 2.32g and has a die axis of 6 o'clock. For similar examples see Reece, R. & James, S.1994 (p.29, items 93-4) and Spink 2007 (p.64, item 600).
