A very worn and heavily clipped silver threepence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), dated 1571 (North 1998). Ref: North 1991: 135.
The coin in clipped to a small size but the inner circle (measureable on the reverse) is 14.5mm suggesting the coin is a threepence, as does the date of 1571.
Obverse and obverse legend are completely worn and illegible but would have shown a crowned bust left, rose behind - [ELIZABETH D G ANG FR ET HI REGINA].
Reverse is worn but shows an unclear royal shield, [15]71 above. Reverse legend is mostly illegible but reads [P]OSV[I/ DEV. AD/IVTORE/M.MEV]. …

A worn silver threepence of Elizabeth I, AD 1558-1603. Obverse shows a crowned bust left within an inner beaded circle. There is possibly an unclear rose behind the head. Obverse legend lies within the border between the edge of the flan and inner circle and reads [ELIZABETH] D.G. ANG. FR. E[T.HI. REGINA]. Reverse is also within an inner circle and shows a shield containing royal arms with a long cross fourchee. Above the shield there is an unclear date [15..] Reverse legend reads [POSVI] / [D]EV.AD / IVTORE / [M.MEV.]. Die axis is 4 or 5 o'clock.

A silver hammered threepence of Elizabeth I, reigned 1558-1603. Obverse shows crowned bust left with rose behind head. Initial mark is portcullis which gives a date range of 1565/6-1566/7. Obverse legend reads ELIZA[BETH] D.G ANG.F[...RE]GINA. Reverse shows long cross fourchee over royal shield - 156[6] above. Reverse legend reads POSVI/DEV.AD/[IVTOR]E/M.MEV. This threepence is of the second coinage which has a sate range of 1561-1582. Die axis is 3 o'clock, weight is 1.20g, diameter is 19.60mm, thickness 0.46mm. See North Vol. II, p.135, no.1998.
