The coins are believed to be nummi, and one has been identified as an AE 3/4 of Constantine II (317 - 340 AD). They were found in a ceramic vessel; a black burnished ware pot now in 20 pieces glued together. The coins do not appear to have been catalogued. A forger's hoard. This record and the associated records linked to this one are for 121 coins or blanks which were found in around 1994. The finder also found a fragment of copper alloy rod, a sherd of courseware pottery and a brooch. Some coins (not included in the above total) were given to the farmer. From a study of the material it is most likely that this constitutes a forgers' hoard which consisted mainly of metal blanks, destined to be struck into coins. There are virtually no details that can be made out, but from the size of the coins and perhaps a couple of visible letters, it appears likely to me that they are late 12th or 13th century silver pennies, possibly of the Short Cross coinage (1180-1247). Early Post-Medieval lump of at least seven partially melted silver coins. Only the reverse of the uppermost coin is apparent, this appears to be an oval garnished shield of arms as found on some halfcrowns of Charles I. The small number of coins present suggests that they are most probably of a high denomination, perhaps halfcrowns, one could even be a crown. The melting down of higher value coins of Charles I suggests that the coin lump may well represent some illicit Civil War activity.

Fragments of the hilt and blade of two Middle Bronze Age rapiers. Fragment two is in two joining pieces. Both appear to belong to the same broad Group in Bugess & Gerloff's (1981) scheme: Group IV, the blade in two sections is probably Type Appleby and the blade in one section has parallels among Type Killucan and Type Corncarrow. Fragment one: 140.53mm long; 22.00mm wide; 5.72mm thick; weight 43.96g. Fragment two: 106.04mm long; 30.34mm wide; 3.73mm thick; weight 31.65g.
