De Jersey (2014):
"A large, widely-scattered hoard of Corieltavian staters discovered over the course of almost a decade. The first eleven coins were recovered in November 1999 and declared Treasure at Hull on 9 May 2000 (TAR 1998-99, 100 no. 265). They were reportedly spread over an area of half an acre, on a ploughed clay/chalk soil, and found both on the surface and to a depth of three or four inches (BMHF).
The second batch, consisting of thirty-five coins, was found between 20 September and 22 October 2000, and declared Treasure on 13 December 2000 (TAR 2000, 107-8 no. 230). …

A group of ten post-medieval Nuremberg copper-alloy jettons all of the 'Rose / orb' type probably deposited in the early 17th century all in the same hole; no traces of a container have been discovered. They can be divided into two groups twice, along different lines:
The first grouping is chronological: three unsigned jettons possibly attributable to the early Schultes dynasty (c. 1553 - c. 1603 AD), seven jettons of Hans Krauwinckel II (fl. 1586-1635 AD).
The second grouping is by size: four jettons c. 23mm in diameter (the three unsigned examples and one of…

A Roman coin hoard of the 2nd century.
Description of the Coins
The hoard contains twelve coins, of which eleven are silver denarii and one is a degraded copper alloy coin. The finder notes that it may be a nummus/minum, and this copper alloy coin is not likely associated with the deposition of the silver hoard. The earliest coin dates from AD 101-102 (Trajan) and the latest from AD 176 (Faustina Augusta).

In 1984 a Founders Hoard of late Bronze Age metal work was unearthed. The Hoard consisted of eight objects. Two of the objects join together to form what could be part of a bronze bowl or caldron; however the piece could simply be a fragment of metal working debris.
The Hoard consists of the following:
1) A fragment of a socketed axe SUSS-8F4D33 (found within the metal detectorists collection - it was not kept with the rest of the hoard, but is likely to be from the same find site, the detectorist is deceased).
2) Two fragments of a bronze bowl or caldron or possibly metal worki…

Items Discovered
1. The sword blade fragment is a short length of blade weighing 11.52 grammes; the lentoid midrib is demarcated by two grooves. Analysis of the metal indicates that it is bronze. Swords like this are known as Carp's Tongue swords because the shape of the blade tip is said to resemble the tongue of that fish. Few complete Carp's Tongue swords are known in Britain. Most specimens consist of scrap fragments imported in that form from the mainland of Europe (Sealey 19915,7 with refs). They were current in the Ewart Park phase of the late Bronze Age dated c.1020…

A hoard of fused silver coins, probably Medieval late 12th - 13th century.
Curator's report: I have examined a fused group of coins reported found in Wandsworth, London. There are virtually no details that can be made out, but from the size of the coins and perhaps a couple of visible letters, it appears likely to me that they are late 12th or 13th century silver pennies, possibly of the Short Cross coinage (1180-1247). If this is correct, they would have a silver fineness of over 90%. The weight of the group is 21.45g, suggesting that there might be around 15 coins pres…

CORONER'S REPORT
Circumstances of find
Twenty four late Roman silver coins (a denomination usually called siliquae by modern scholars) were discovered with the use of a metal detector in 2007 and reported to the Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service.
Description of find
Ranging in date from AD 355-402 and minted at Rome and the great western Roman cities of Trier and Milan, together with the Balkan mint of Siscia (near Zagreb), these coins represent the final epoch of Roman authority over Britain. Indeed the nature of the coins, which have been clipped of the silve…

Sword fragment - Tip of blade with very straight sides and flattened oval in section. Bevelled for the cutting edge, which is slightly damaged along both sides. Light brown patination, except near the break where the blade is slightly bent and the surface green and slightly corroded. Width at break 35mm, length at least 117mm.
Spear - Tip of socketed spear, broken before base of socket. The median rib is prominent and the edges bevelled. The tip is bent sideways in a slight curve. Most of the surface is covered with orange-brown patination or corrosion, which also covered the break.

At least two examples appear to have the remains of casting sprues attached to their mouths and others may have been deliberately broken. Early Post-Medieval lump of at least seven partially melted silver coins. Only the reverse of the uppermost coin is apparent, this appears to be an oval garnished shield of arms as found on some halfcrowns of Charles I. The small number of coins present suggests that they are most probably of a high denomination, perhaps halfcrowns, one could even be a crown. The melting down of higher value coins of Charles I suggests that the coin lump may well represent some illicit Civil War activity.

I have examined 13 late medieval coins reported as found in the South Lakeland. They are official English silver coins, and will thus have a silver content of 92.5% fine metal - the sterling standard. A summary list of the coins follows (a more detailed catalogue is attached to this report).
4 pennies of Edward I-II (1279-1327)
4 groats, 1 half-groat and 4 pennies of Edward III (1327-77)

I have examined a group of coins reported found in the Ilam area in Staffordshire. All are official silver coins of the medieval kings of England and will therefore be of the traditional sterling standard, c. 92.5% fine metal. Three denominations are present: pennies, half-groats (twopences) and groats (fourpences). The coins range in date from the early 14th century to the early reign of Henry VI. This range is wholly consistent with 15th century currency, since there was no complete English recoinage after 1279 and older coins, increasingly worn and clipped down to more recent weigh…

All of the present coins are Roman silver coins of a denomination known as the denarius (plural denarii). The earliest was a coin of Vespasian. The latest closely dated issue is of Marcus Aurelius with a combination of the emperor's titles for the year 172; although also present was a coin of his empress Faustina II which could have been struck anytime up until her death in 176. In terms of composition this group of coins is consistent with other hoards of this period. The coins can be summarised as follows:
Summary:
Emperor Quantity
Vespasian, 69-79AD 1
Domitian, 81-96AD 1

A hoard of debased long-cross pennies/coins, possibly of Edward I (AD 1272-1307). Treasure case No. 2009 T756.
Total weight: 1066gms.
The coins are mostly consolidated; they were originally in a small vessel (recently broken) and have taken on the shape of this vessel in their consolidation. The coins all appear to have suffered some corrosion as they are mostly white in colour. Some coins display a green copper staining showing that some of the silver is debased. From the consolidated mass it is hard to estimate the quantity of coins but there may be c.200-300.

Description of find
3 coins in close proximity to one another. All are close in date, two being Watford type pennies of Stephen, the other being an uncertain penny of similar date, probably one of North's uncertain Baronial issues. These almost certainly represent part of a scattered hoard; pennies of this period are very rare as single finds and the presence of three together is best understood in the context of a scattered hoard.

Four irregular-shaped lumps of lead-alloy, each of which contains one or more late Roman nummi. All four lumps were discovered in the same small area and clearly derive from a single deposit, presumably a metal working hoard. Two pieces were discovered in context, and the other two were discovered in the plough soil nearby. An illegible late Roman nummus was discovered loose next to this lump. The items are listed numerically below.
Item 1. An irregular shaped lump of lead containing a late Roman nummus of the House of Theodosius, 'VICTORIA AVGGG' type. The lump is rougly rectangula…

I have examined a group of five coins reported found at Waterhouses, Staffordshire. All are official silver issues of the kings of England, specifically Henry V and Henry VI. As such, they will have been made of silver of the traditional sterling standard, over 90% fine metal. The coins consist of two groats (the four-penny coin), two half-groats and one penny, with a collective face value, therefore, of 1 shilling and 1 penny. Their details are as follows.

A hoard of 134 copper alloy Roman nummi, mostly 4th century. What follows is an extract of the report written by Dr. Eleanor Ghey of the Department of Coins & Medals, British Museum.
The coins are a mixed group but the majority (66 identifiable coins) are Valentinianic nummi and some later nummi dating up to AD 402. The group also included a worn sestertius of Antonine date, two radiates of Claudius II and a number of earlier nummi. The majority of coins were worn but the composition and spatial proximity of the group probably reflects that of a scattered late Roman hoard.

A group of 10 coins from Coney Weston in Suffolk. All are silver, 9 are English, 8 of King Henry VI and one older piece too worn and clipped to date precisely. There are 5 groats (the four-penny coin) and 4 pennies. The remaining coin is a groat of James I, King of Scots. By his reign Scottish coins were produced to a much lighter weight standard than English ones and were not legally tolerated in England; nevertheless, they did circulate to some extent, as hoards and single finds demonstrate, although their value may have been discounted and this coin, for example, utilised as a half…

Felixstowe (nr), Suffolk (2009 T663)
I have examined seven coins reported found near Felixstowe in Suffolk. All are official silver coins of the English kings from Edward I to Edward III, and will have a fineness of the traditional sterling standard, 92.5% fine metal. A detailed list accompanies this report.
There are six pennies and one halfpenny in the group. The latest dates to the 1360s and the older coins are generally reduced to the lower weight standard introduced in 1351, so it is very likely that this is a group deposited togetheron a single occasion. Since there are no…

A previous find of 16 Iron Age coins was made in June and July 2008 by the same finder in the same location (2008 T412).
Like the previous 16 coins, this coin is also a 'Flat Linear I' potin. While the majority of Iron Age coins were produced by striking a gold, silver or bronze blank between a pair of dies, potins were instead cast in moulds and made from a lead/tin-rich bronze alloy. Although highly abstract, it is clear that their designs copied earlier types which depicted a human head and a butting bull, originally derived from the coinage of the Greek city of Massalia (Marse…

TREASURE CASE 2015 T73. A lump of fused silver medieval pennies. The collection conisits of an uncertain number of pennies, possibly originally in a tube of sorts as the coins are stacked one upon the other. The lower section has been heated to a high temperature, causing the silver pennies to melt into an unrecognisable silver lump. There are three or four pennies near the top that although fused still resemble long cross and possibly short cross pennies, however they are all but unidentifiable. The combined weight of this component of the hoard amounts to 115.09g, representing some 90% per cent of the total surviving weight of the hoard (127.77g). This points to a primary purpose of silver storage. The ingots are described individually:
