A hoard of 134 copper alloy Roman nummi, mostly 4th century. What follows is an extract of the report written by Dr. Eleanor Ghey of the Department of Coins & Medals, British Museum.
The coins are a mixed group but the majority (66 identifiable coins) are Valentinianic nummi and some later nummi dating up to AD 402. The group also included a worn sestertius of Antonine date, two radiates of Claudius II and a number of earlier nummi. The majority of coins were worn but the composition and spatial proximity of the group probably reflects that of a scattered late Roman hoard.

TREASURE CASE 2015 T73. A lump of fused silver medieval pennies. The collection conisits of an uncertain number of pennies, possibly originally in a tube of sorts as the coins are stacked one upon the other. The lower section has been heated to a high temperature, causing the silver pennies to melt into an unrecognisable silver lump. There are three or four pennies near the top that although fused still resemble long cross and possibly short cross pennies, however they are all but unidentifiable. These may have been melted deliberately contemporarily, as the practice of modern stubble…

A hoard of debased long-cross pennies/coins, possibly of Edward I (AD 1272-1307). Treasure case No. 2009 T756.
Total weight: 1066gms.
The coins are mostly consolidated; they were originally in a small vessel (recently broken) and have taken on the shape of this vessel in their consolidation. The coins all appear to have suffered some corrosion as they are mostly white in colour. Some coins display a green copper staining showing that some of the silver is debased. From the consolidated mass it is hard to estimate the quantity of coins but there may be c.200-300.

Description: 10 copper-alloy Roman coins and two iron objects (photo attached). The coins are in poor condition, and quite accreted, so it's difficult to make out the surface details, but likely to be later Roman given their size. One appears to be perforated, so may have been reused. One of the iron objects is socketed with a single nail hole and would have been hafted - probably an agricultural implement of some kind but needs x-ray to get a clearer view. The other iron object is a nail.
Discussion and conclusions: The coins and iron objects were deliberately deposited wit…

The coins are mostly official English issues, but with two coins of the Burgundian Netherlands, double patards, which were legal tender here at a valuation of fourpence, thanks to a convention between Edward IV and Charles the Bold in 1469. The gold coin is of fine gold, over 94% pure. The English silver coins are sterling standard, 92.5% fine, and the Burgundian coins are 80% fine silver.
The coins range in date from the 14th or early 15th century (a now fragmentary halfpenny and some very worn pennies) to the latest coins in the hoard…

The hoard consists of 23 silver miliarenses, 137 silver siliquae and one copper alloy nummus.
The siliqua was the main silver denomination of the late Roman period and the miliarensis was double this denomination. Thesewere among the last silver coins minted in the western Roman cities of the Roman Empire in the late fourth and early fifth century but continued to circulate after the collapse of Roman rule over Britain in AD 410. Hoard of two incomplete cast copper alloy unlooped palstaves, or axeheads, dating from the Middle Bronze Age. One palstave has been broken cleanly into two pieces, probably by farming machinery since deposition, and the other palstave has just the butt end remaining, missing part of its flanged sides and its stop ridge to hold the haft or handle, and all of its blade. The more complete palstave is decorated below the stop-ridge with a raised shield shape with curved sides that tapers to a point as it extends on to the blade section. The butt end of the palstave is squared off and then…

Roman coin hoard of 76 coins dating from 49 BC-AD 209. The coins submitted for consideration consist of a group of 2 silver and 74 copper alloy coins, 73 of which are mainly of the large-sized copper alloy denomination known as the sestertius with a few smaller asses and dupondii. The coins are much worn and some have lost edge and surface, with only a corroded core remaining. For this reason it is difficult to be certain of the denomination of the smaller coins, although the thickness of some suggests that they were also originally sestertii. These coins are predominantly second cent…

Description:
The hoard comprises 20 silver pennies of the Long Cross type introduced by Edward I in 1279 (c.1282-1310). There are two Scottish coins: one of Alexander III's Second Coinage (c.1280-92), and one of John Baliol (c.1292-96). The coins date from between 1280 and 1310.
The coins were recovered from an arable field, spread over an area of approximately 20 metres. It is likely that the hoard was deposited during a single episode in an organic container that has since decomposed. No pottery sherds or other related finds were identified.

Description:
The coins were recovered over an area of approximately 900 square metres (30m x 30m), centred on the findspot, and from a depth of up to 15cm. It is likely that the hoard represents a lost purse dispersed in the topsoil by subsequent agricultural activity.
In addition to the medieval coins, a single probable post medieval coin was also found. This coin is not likely to be part of the medieval coin hoard, but was rather a loca…

1. The sword blade fragment is a short length of blade weighing 11.52 grammes; the lentoid midrib is demarcated by two grooves. Analysis of the metal indicates that it is bronze. Swords like this are known as Carp's Tongue swords because the shape of the blade tip is said to resemble the tongue of that fish. Few complete Carp's Tongue swords are known in Britain. Most specimens consist of scrap fragments imported in that form from the mainland of Europe (Sealey 19915,7 with refs). They were current in the Ewart Park phase of the late Bronze Age dated c.1020…
