Four objects were found whilst metal-detecting in late October 2014 and reported to PAS on 16th January 2015. Two of the objects were fragments of gold. They were discovered 5m apart, and 50m away from the other objects - a gold and a silver coin. Description: Gold-coloured bracelet fragments (2): The pieces fit together and a small toggle, oval in plan, forms the mechanism by which the bracelet was secured. This style of clasp was introduced in the 19th Century, and the bracelet is likely to date from that time. Coins: One of the coins is an Iron Age gold stater of "Ga…

A single element of the UWTS archaeological fieldwork (WA 54746) remains to be undertaken. An assessment of the results of the scheme-wide project is in progress, to be followed by full publication, probably in a Wessex Archaeology monograph. Metalwork Two discrete hoards of Late Bronze Age metalwork were recovered (from Trenches 6 and 7 respectively) during archaeological evaluation in June 2004. Further elements of one of these hoards (Hoard 1) were found during subsequent excavation in June 2005; it is almost certain that all elements of this hoard have been recovered. Th…

A hoard of 929 fragments of copper-alloy plate and their container of likely Late Bronze Age date, c. 1150 - 800BC, possibly of the Wilburton phase (c.1150-1000BC). Description: The hoard consists of 929 fragments of copper-alloy 'plate'. These pieces range in size from 9mm x 6mm to 58mm x 41mm and are highly irregular. No element can clearly be identifed as coming from either a bun ingot, typical of the period or clearly definet object types. It is noted however that all the fragments are small enough to easily be added to a crucible for remelting. While most of the edges of the f…
