A fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5.a3., flat wing ends type, Western Group). The wings are semi-cylindrical with wing caps. Each cap has a central perforation which supports a copper alloy axis bar. Around the axis bar the spring is coiled, forming five incomplete coils, a pin, of which only approximately three-quarters of the pin remains, and a horizontal bar. Roman (c. AD 60 to 80) Aesica type brooch: The wings of the cast copper alloy brooch are almost semi-cylindrical. Within the wings there is a copper alloy axis bar with a spring coiled around it. The spring has 14 coils and a fragment of the pin. The external coils join forming a horizontal bar which loops under the upper portion of the bow. An unidentified copper-alloy object that may possibly have had a function as a chatelaine. The object is sub-trapezoidal with a narrowed area near the shortest edge. The longest and shortest edges have a row of circular perforations and have scalloped edges. Through one of these perforations there is a strand of copper-alloy wire curled around the edge. Both faces are decorated with three transverse ridges of varying widths. The object has a white-metal coating as it has a dull grey surface. It measures 18.19mm high by 18.42mm wide and 2.83mm thick.
