At the reverse is an incomplete shank that would have extended into a loop to allow the button to be sewn to a garment. The front face is decorated with a multi petalled flower. There is a very similar design recorded by Bailey (2004) page 47, no 35. Bailey explains how the patterns on 18th century tombac buttons were hand engraved leading to great variation.
