Lead shot. Cast dumbbell shot, probably for use with a carbine or pistol of military specification, comprising paired spherical balls joined by an integrally cast round section shank. There is no evidence of it being fired. It is thought that the doubled mass of the round would enhance its 'stopping power' in the event of a hit, though at an increased risk of fouling the gun barrel. The use of cast dumbbell shot is characteristic of English practice in the 17th century, while the pistol and carbine would be a weapon used by a cavalry trooper. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1700. …

The tag consists of a pointed oval (tear) shaped plate pierced in two places on the upper edge. The point of the tear narrows in width but also thickens; it is folded back upon itself to form a blunt hook. The two holes pierced through the upper plate are irregularly positioned - being unsymmetrical. One hole is bigger that the other - both are round and crisp showing no damage through wear. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with three ring-and-dot motifs ; these are p…

Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. A cast copper alloy cockspur of probable later medieval - post medieval date (1400 - 1800). The cockspur is formed from a hoop or band (oval circlet); from the upper surface an integrally cast tapering spike extends. The spike - or prick - has an oval section. The prick has an oval section and tapers to a blunt point. The exterior edge of the hoop is thickened and decorated with a circumferential thickened band. This edge is pierced by four holes evenly spaced around the edge. These holes would have fixed a leather strap to the spur enabling it to be worn. The surface of the cockspur…
