A rim sherd of a ceramic vessel of Roman date (c. AD 43-410). The object is irregularly shaped in plan, but is roughly trapezoidal with two sub-triangular projections at the bottom, tapering from 70.11mm wide to 43.79mm wide just before the projections and 28.19mm wide before the tips of the projections. The rim of the sherd has a sub-triangular cross section, expanding from 4.39mm near the rounded top of the rim to 15.39mm near the bottom of the lip of the rim. Object type: TILE
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a ceramic object, likely a tile of Roman date (c. AD 43-410). The object is roughly parallelogram in plan and has a sub-rectangular cross section. The object has reddish-orange surfaces, margins, and core. The fabric has sparse to moderate, poorly sorted coarse quartz inclusions, along with possible sparse grog tempering. One side is largely flat whilst the other has the remnants of a paw print of an animal. Due to the size (23.21mm wide and 20.82mm), lack of clear claw marks, and asymmetry of the paw print, it is most likely the paw print of a cat. Dimen…
