An extremely worn, incomplete Post Medieval silver penny of Charles I (AD 1625-1649) dating AD 1625-1649. Possibly Group D. Uncertain initial mark. No inner circles. See North (1991) Vol.2 pg.162 no.2268. Parts of the outer edge of the coin are missing and there is a c.2.65mm tear near the centre of the obverse from around 5 o'clock to around 6 o'clock with two c.0.90mm long tears at either end of the main tear. Diameter: 12.44mm. Thickness: 0.39mm. Weight: 0.36g. Die axis: 5.

The mintmark is missing on the obverse, whilst on the reverse it appears that there is a book mintmark, meaning that the coin was minted in Aberystwyth around AD 1638-1649. A silver penny of Charles I AD 1625-1649. This is one of Briot’s milled coins (AD 1631-1632). The reverse inscription begins in the bottom right-hand corner and continues clockwise around the edge of the coin. The coin is pierced at 5 o’clock on the obverse, with the hole having a diameter of 1.49mm. Obverse description: Crowned bust left, I behind head. B below bust. Obverse inscription: CAR D G MAG BRIT FR ET H R. Reverse description: Shield of Royal arms over long cross fourchee. Reverse inscription: IVSTI[TIA] [THR]ONVM FIRMAT. Diameter: 13.87mm.
