However, as there is no evidence to suggest that the coin ceased to be used as currency it has not been put forward as a potential candidate for Treasure.

A copper-alloy dagger chape from a scabbard of probable late medieval to early post-medieval date. The chape is small and sub-triangular in shape, terminating in a cast knop at the bottom. The back is formed from a plate of cut copper-alloy, soldered onto the moulded front. This back plate has been pushed inwards, closing the gap between the two plates. From the top of the front plate there is a projecting point, which would have run a small way up the scabbard. Aside from this and the knop at the bottom the chape is plain and unadorned. It is in fairly poor condition, suffering from …

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper-alloy sword pommel of early medieval date, probably dating from the 10th or 11th centuries AD. The pommel is of lobed form, with a central lobe which contains the irregularly shaped sub-oval aperture through which the tang of the handle would pass. This central lobe is flanked by two smaller lobes, each with terminal knops on the side. The base of the pommel curves up at the ends towards these knops. The pommel is open at the base, and the aperture is lozenge shaped. It is worn and only parts of the original surface remain, the rest having deteriorated through corrosion.…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A heavily corroded iron annular buckle or brooch with pin attached, probably medieval in date. The large size of the iron ring, as well as the bulky pin may suggest that this is a buckle rather than a brooch, although there does appear to be a pin constriction which tends to be more characteristic of brooches, although these may simply be products of the corrosion. The frame measures 54.74 mm in diameter and 7.06 mm thick. The iron pin measures 68.58 mm long. The object weighs 39.1 grams.

An incomplete copper-alloy Limoges-style figurine, probably from a medieval reliquary or casket. It probably dates from circa 1150 to 1300 AD. The mount is in the form of a robed figure, missing its head. The folds of the robe are intricately depicted by several sunken cells which would probably have been filled with different coloured enamels, although none of this now survives. However, traces of gilding remain in some areas on the surface. The reverse of the mount is flat. Two rivet holes, one near the top and one near the bottom, would have secured the mount to the reliquary or ca…

A cast copper-alloy seal matrix of medieval date. The seal matrix is hexagonal in shape and is flat with a central pierced rib terminating in a lug on the reverse. The front has a central device representing a pair of clasped hands, above which (or below, depending on which way it is held) there is a fleur-de-lis. The device is set within a hexagonal border. Around this border a legend is arranged. This begins with a star and appears to read S'ROB'T DE LYE, which translates as Seal of Robert of Lye. This may be an alternative spelling of the modern Leigh, as this is near to where the …

A lead spindle whorl of probable Early Medieval date, though it may run into the medieval period. The spindle whorl is bi-conical with a central perforation which is broken and it is missing a chunk. The object is decorated on both sides with linear designs, and these appear to be runic script. It is possible that the script is pseudo-runic, and merely intended to imitate a script, but it does seem that the runes are genuine Anglo-Saxon runes. Wear on the spindle whorl and the missing section hamper decipherment and the meaning of the runes has not yet been established. It is possible…

A cast copper-alloy strap loop of some sort, almost certainly of late Iron Age to very early Roman in date, from circa 120 BC to AD 50. The loop is oval in plan and the sides are waisted, so that the sides flare outwards on the outside of the loop to a ridge at the top and bottom. The outside of the loop is decorated with triangular cells arranged in an 'hour glass' motif, with the points of the triangle facing one another. 2011 T225 I have examined a group of coins reported found in Worcestershire. All the coins are silver and are from the Long Cross coinage of King Henry III, issued 1247-1279, with one related coin of Henry's similar Irish coinage, which also circulated in England. Some of the coins are whole pennies (the only coin then being produced); some are deliberately cut fractions (halfpennies or farthings) and some are broken fragments. There are nine whole or largely complete pennies, five cut halfpennies, 2 probable cut farthings and two uncertain fragments. A more detailed list accompanie…
