A incomplete cast copper-alloy unidentified object on possible Iron Age or Roman date. It has been suggested that this could be an incomplete linch pin. The artefact has a sub square central section with two curved protrusions which turn upwards and taper to a point. There are two vertical parallel incisions which delineate the central boss from the two protrusions. The artefact is incomplete, there is an old break at the tip. The buckle is 14.15mm in length, 29.05mm wide, 4.85mm thick and weighs 5.4 grams.

A sub circular silvered copper alloy object, of possible Roman dating (1 to 410 AD). It is sub circular in plan, and D shaped in section. The top surface is smooth and domed, with a couple of uneven projections. The lower surface is flat. It measures 20.45mm in length, 21.34mm wide and 6.27mm thick. It weighs 13.1grams. The object could be a piece of casting waste, but there are traces of silvering on a couple of areas on both surfaces. The patina is similar to that found on early Roman coins, but this object is too thick to be a coin.

An unidentified wrought iron object of uncertain dating. It is triangular in plan, and circular in cross section. It consists of a hollow cone shape, made from a sheet of iron wrapped together and then fixed. It measures 62.77mm in length, 13.23mm diameter wide at the top, and 3.77mm diameter wide at the bottom. It weighs 20.5 grams. It is a mid to dark brown colour, with an even surface patina. A cast copper alloy unidentified Roman object. In plan the object is a sub-lozenge shape which is elongated. One terminal of the object has a rectangular arm extending from it, but only a fragment remains and the broken edge is possibly a recent break. The opposite terminal is rounded and abraded; therefore it is not known whether this is the original edge. Otherwise the edges of the object are rounded. The upper surface is decorated with two triangular cells within which there appears to be a high-relief design which is unclear. In the field surrounding the design there appears to be …

A medieval finial, possibly the spout of a small pouring vessel or the surviving fixture from a larger object. It is cast into the shape of a beast with an open mouth from which issues the spout. The beast has bat-like ears which it clutches with its hands. The right hand is better defined with three webbed fingers. The vertebrae of the beast are identified along its back and grooves on either side may be intended to represent wings. A similar object from Moyses Hall Museum, Bury St Edmunds (1979.288A) has been interpreted for use in pouring or as a means of allowing the flow of inc…

An unidentified object and it is uncertain whether it is a fragment or a nearly complete object. There is one original edge which is a curved ridge which then has a second integral curved ridge on the concave side. The internal ridge has an integral plate which has a sub-rectangular hole on the outer edge. This seems to be purposeful rather than due to corrosion. Along the broken edges of this area there appears to be three other incomplete holes. The reverse is almost flat with small grooves defining the ridges on the other face. The item is quite crude. It has a well mottled mid gree…

The surface of the object has a mottled green/grey patina. It measures 57.06mm long, 23.15mm wide and 7.74mm thick. It weighs 7g. A cast copper alloy unidentified object. The object has a circular sectioned rod which forms a wide ‘V’ shape in plan. This shape appears to be bent through use rather than being accidental as it is symmetrical. The rod terminates with integral bulbous knops. The surface of the object has a mid green patina. It measures 58.1mm long and 19.39mm wide from the apex of the rod to the lower edge of a terminal. It weighs 21.3g. A possible knapped flint Palaeolithic tool or flake. The fragment is knapped from flint which is a mottled light grey/cream colour, but where there is the original surface remaining it has developed a heavy patination, which is a age/brown colour. Only a fragment of the object has this heavy patination, but it is these areas which appear to be negative flake scars. On both scars ripples of percussion are visible. Otherwise the surfaces of the object are caused by recent damage. It weighs 14.15g. The patination, shape of the flake scars and ripples of percussion suggest this was knappe…

A cast copper alloy unidentified object. The object is a pointed oval in plan, with the upper and lower surfaces are relatively flat in profile. The surface area of the upper surface is slightly smaller than the base. The edges are quite angular. The surface is heavily corroded; the corrosion is distorting the profile of the object. Due to the corrosion any potential breaks are not visible. There are traces of a shiny dark grey patina, which is also pitted. The object measures 45.34mm long, 16.17mm wide and 6.59mm thick. It weighs 15.33g. The function and date of the object is not known.

A cast copper alloy unidentified object. The object is either a fragment of a larger object or is incomplete. The object is moulded, and is similar to the head, beak and body of a duck, however this is probably not intentional. The beak terminates with a blunt point and is oval in section. The head is seated on the body, with the neck being defined by simplistic moulding. The head is just a rounded knop. Around the head is a band of ‘pecked’ decoration, which is a band of irregular low-relief oval stamps. Below the beak on the body there is a horizontal groove with irregular stampe…

An unidentified cast copper alloy decorative fitting. The object is semi-cylindrical in profile, but the exterior surface has three faces. Towards one terminal the profile tapers to form a flat platform before a broken edge. The opposite edge is also broken, but this edge has some decoration in the form of two parallel transverse grooves and more fine grooves, whose motif is indistinguishable. In plan the object is rectangular. The reverse has file marks along the edge and fine striations on the reverse of the flat platform. This portion of the reverse is slightly off-set. The surface…
