A complete cast and decorated lead alloy tobacco box lid knop / handle. The knop is broadly circular in plan and irregular in profile. The central knop is decorated as a flower. It has a central raised boss, which expands into a series of radiating lentoid shaped petals. It is likely that these were originally coated with a black coloured surface which has since decayed. An incomplete cast copper alloy vessel lid or stopper from a tobacco jar dating from the late Medieval to early Post Medieval period, circa AD1600-1850. In plan, the top of the lid had a flower head design with a central knop surrounded by 8 petals. The lid is damaged and it is likely that there were originally 9 petals. The petals are defined by a shallow groove and the end of each petal is slightly rounded. The edge of the flower lid was probably originally sub-lozenge shape in form. The reverse of the lid is plain and is now contorted although it was probably originally flat. At th…

The central knop / lid is broadly decorated as a flower. It has a central raised boss, located within a circle. A series of radiating lentoid shaped petals extend away from the circle.
